2013 Project 365

Project 365/241 – An Evening Cruise

The humidity has broken, and the day was picture perfect. With blue skies and cooler temperatures. The first day of my riding clinic went really well, and four more days to go.

The weather was so perfect today that a long-overdue evening cruise on the bay was due.

When we reached the area where the Magothy River widens, we were greeted with a number of sailboats under sail. Listing and jibbing in the bay’s breeze.

It is Wednesday, we had never been out in the evening on Wednesdays during the summer. Wednesday nights are for sailboat races.

Even with the bright blue skies, the sunset was beautiful to watch. It is these moments that makes all of the hardships in life worthwhile. Β These are those moments that must be searched out and treasured.

  1. The boat/sunset photos are gorgeous! I was hoping for a shot of the flotilla running downwind towards you with their spinnakers set, which is my favorite way of photographing sailboats.

    • There was one spinnaker in the group. Hubby was driving, so it was hard to direct where to go. Besides it’s pretty impolite to get right into the middle of their course. Perhaps one day I’ll get this shot that you mention. How you describe it sounds stunning!

      • I used to shoot the sailboat races on Grand Traverse Bay from shore, I have some old faded Kodachrome slides of the races that I would love to duplicate now.

  2. beautiful photos…I have never been a sailor – I am landlocked with the sea 80 miles away…but one day when I retire I would like to live by the sea…and maybe buy a little boat…

  3. I served a term in Florida… the sailboat races were always spectacular. Thanks for the wonderful photos! Reminds me of the (Few) good memories from living down there. πŸ™‚
