A fabulous summer extravaganza. The 23rd annual Strawberry festival held at the Benson Hammond House in Linthicum, Maryland offers food, music, crafts and historic home tours.
How many ways can a strawberry be served? Fresh strawberries, strawberries dipped in chocolate, strawberry shortcake, strawberry jelly and jams, and best of all, light strawberry wine.
Oh the strawberryness of the day. Gloriously red and sweet to celebrate early summer. All with the historic Benson-Hammond House as a backdrop. Home of the Ann Arrundell County Historical Society, the house is listed with the National Register of Historic Places.
A home focused on showing the farm life from the late 1800’s, the home originated in 1830 by a truck farmer and his family. The sole survivor of truck farms in the area with the surrounding land devoted to the creation of BWI airport. The Benson-Hammond House retains the history of truck farming in Maryland.
This post is dedicated to Jerry of Quiet Solo Pursuits to tempt him with another lovely food post.

Lovely photos…..
Thank you so much Barbara.
Strawberry fields forever – delicious these strawberries… 🙂 😉
I need to go find a strawberry field. I remember them in California, and they really do go on forever on the rambling hills.
The joy of strawberries. Visions of those marvelous lazy summer days.
The strawberry shortcake was divine. The wine so sweet.
And there are very little calories in strawberries…
That is until you add the pound cake and whipped cream. 🙂
Juicy!
They were quite delicious. Thank you.
I love community events that draw us back to our roots. It certainly does not hurt that you can eat strawberries at the same time…The photos are such great fun.
Thank you so much Charlie ! I love festivals and would go to one every day if I could.
Emily, that’s the most deliciously tempting strawberry post! How utterly delightful to go to a Strawberry Festival! I would have ended up spending a fortune. 😀 What was your favourite? Hugs, Sharon
LOL ! You are too funny Sharon. I had the shortcake and some wine to go with it. It was perfect. The house tour was really spectacular. They have a wonderful and full collection of antiques.
A very lush post. I need to go to this place!
It was a single day event. Earmark it for next year though. It’s a quaint festival.
In the diary. Strawberries look beautiful on film – and taste even better!
There is an Irish festival in Annapolis today and tons of festivals next weekend. Sailabration is back in Baltimore next week!
Thank you for the shout out! But, you just happened to pick the one berry that I’m not overly fond of, unless I find wild ones that the birds haven’t found yet. For some reason, I much prefer the wild ones to the cultivated varieties. Now the strawberry wine, that could get me into trouble.
Haha ! Now that is funny Jerry. Here I was trying to tempt you some more. Should have posted about my Florida blueberries instead. Although the wine..was certainly worth it!
Or local strawberry fest isn’t until July. With the weather we’re having… it may not new till August! Thanks for enticing me!
That’s incredible. The funny thing is..at this strawberry fest, they were selling strawberries that they bought in a store. Most likely Costco and repacking them.
Doh! That IS funny! I usually think of ‘fruit fests’ as something that entails the harvesting, preparing, eating & enjoying of whatever fruit is in season. Ha!
I know right? This was the first time I went. Although the wine and the shortcake was certainly worth the visit. Now to find a strawberry patch.
I love strawberries! Wish I could have been there!
It was fun. I love festivals – although you were camping again right?
Didn’t camp this weekend. My middle son was graduating from high school.
Yummm! Now I am having a craving for chocolate covered strawberries! Love the variety of photos in this collage, too. So pretty!
Thank you so much Tricia. I’ve got admit, those chocolate covered strawberries looked amazing. I went for the wine instead.
Can never have enough berries… all kinds.
I totally agree. I was so excited to be in Florida last week as it i blueberry season there. They have the most amazing huge, sweet, juicy berries. Brought a pound back home. Not nearly enough.
I love strawberries… those ones dipped in chocolate look so delicious! 🙂
Thank you so much. I agree, they look amazing.
