A couple of birding friends and I traveled to Chesapeake Bay Environmental Area in Grasonville, Maryland this morning in search of some herons.
Little did I know what I was getting was ring-side seats to a Snowy Egret fight. While many of their friends lounged quietly along the marsh, a few were determined to fight it out.
Fighter’s up ! With a squawk and a leap, the two contenders jump into the air. Feathers fluffed, and beaks sharp who knows who will win.
The leaping continued with more enthusiasm.
And the mightier one prevailed. Watch out for the incoming blow!
Some of the best fighting I’ve seen. Perhaps they’ll continue the battle for another day, and another visit.
