I’m going to let you in on a secret – Zorro and Esperanza are moving in !
Yes, it is true. After all of this time, I spied them sitting on the new platform house shopping and discussing whether or not it would be a good place to move in to. This was on a foggy morning on June 2nd.
I watched Zorro sit and bite the standing nest stick, which is there for anchoring nesting material. I wasn’t sure if he was just mad about the whole situation and having to move into a smaller home. After all, the boat lift that they had was true luxury living. But as those that have followed the saga of Zorro and Esperanza, it was quite the inhospitable place.
Little by little I’ve seen the nest grow. They’re not on the platform all that much but I see them across the river in their favorite evergreen tree. Keeping an eye on their new home. Of course as soon as we saw the first twig up there, we place out the stick buffet for Zorro to select from.
Yesterday afternoon (Sunday June 7th) I captured Zorro trying to get an awkward branch that he brought in to work in their new home.
As they are now having a summer of leisure there’s no rush to get a big nest built. But they can get next year’s nest started on and complete it when they return next spring.
Standing tall and proud, Zorro is a pillar of strength. This will be the fifth nest he will have built this season.
I think we can all learn a lesson from Zorro.
Work hard. Don’t get discouraged when setbacks occur and keep trying no matter what.

hooray!!! go zorro!! π
He really is the man isn’t he?
Yuppers! π
Nice! π
Thank you ! It was so thrilling to see him start to move in.
HURRAH!!!!! I knew it! I never had any doubt that they would come back. What a happy day indeed! Thank you so much for sharing such wonderful news. π β€
You had much more faith than I. I was thrilled to see him working there. I’m out of town, but report from last night was that he was there. π

Alright Zorro – now this is what I’m talking about!! Awesome E! You’ve given them a place to call their summer retreat, now it’s up to him to complete with all the comforts of home. Don’t you just love it – great shots, he’s a happy guy and the couple can continue on. They are thanking you ~
I’m so happy I can’t tell you Mary. I wasn’t sure it would work and I was planning on getting a larger home made for him during the fall. If they can settle in, it would be awesome !
Thank you so much for such a wonderful comment.
you’re awesome to do this for them. so happy they started building. is it too late to breed this year?
Alas, it is Clare. The kids don’t have enough time to grow and learn how to fly and fish. Next year they can try again.
Woo hoo, go Zorro and Esperanza, how fabulous they are moving to the “suggested” safe zone! π
I couldn’t believe it either. Here’s hoping they think it’s safe enough as it’s quite close to my veggie garden which I tend to daily.
Very good news!
Yes it is ! Thanks David.
Jump for jooooy!! Blessings to all of you who helped this beautiful pair, in the face of a few nasty folks. π
Get this..and the nasty folks, the girl is a horsewoman. Go figure. Won’t let her near my ponies now.
I’m doing the victory dance with you.
VICTORY DANCE! π
Sadly, I know too many not-so-kind “horsepeople.” It makes one wonder WHY, exactly, they chose to align themselves with such beautiful, powerful animals. I see it as a power-thing with them.
I really do wonder too. I see Zorro and Esperanza on the nest now and again. But they’re not truly committed. It’ll be interesting to see what the next year will bring.
Yay!! It looks like he’s staring at you in the last photo.
He totally was..with that “I’m angry at you” look. Gotta love it.
Huzzah!
Huzzah back !!
I’m overjoyed! πππ
I’m so glad that they are able to accept your housing option and get away from the mean people. I hope they can still locate their cars and poop on them. That was a bit childish, wasn’t it π
Heck no !! In fact, 18 Canada geese have moved in and I keep chasing them onto their property. They’re making a lovely mess on their lawn. π
Very happy news!! Go Zorro!
Agreed ! Go Zorro !! He’s such a wonderful man.
Great news in the continuing saga. It’s been a bit like a soap opera with villains (the neighbors) and heroes (that would be you, Emily). Wonderful photos of the intrepid ospreys.
Never considered myself as a hero. Thank you so much Mike, you have truly humbled me. This story really has so many lessons to share. How I admire Zorro for his perseverance and work ethic.
