Get My Picture on the Cover

Not quite the Cover of the Rolling Stones, but on the cover nevertheless.

It’s time to share some small successes in the developing story of becoming a professional photographer and writer.

Last fall, a publishing house contacted me and wanted to use one of my images from Gettysburg for a book. This book is a children’s book that has 3,000 copies issued and will be distributed in libraries and schools.

Battle of Gettysburg by John Hamilton published by Abdo Publishing is now in print and available for purchase. I’ve been fascinated by the Gettysburg Battle, but must confess that it is so complicated that I have a hard time following the players and the story line. This book is geared for children, and it’s great! I absolutely love the easy to read format and how the players fit into the battle makes so much more sense to me.

The second book has yet to be printed. A recent image of mine taken of downtown Annapolis during the blue hour captured the attention of a local indie writer. Jeff Gunhus is a successful published writer that offers career books for the young college student, and “The Templar Chronicles” a three book series where Jack Templar goes out and fights evil monsters. Right up my alley with adventure and some Indiana Jones feel to them. He also has a psychological thriller “Night Chill” which has rave reviews and is a best seller in its genre.

His new book to come out early April is “Killer Within”, a psychological thriller based in Annapolis. From the reviews from “Night Chill” I guarantee you that this will be a new writer that I’ll be reading and enjoying thoroughly.

These writers and publishers has opened up new doors for me, both professional as well as finding new reads. I’m honored and thrilled that my photos were deemed worthy to be on a cover of a published work. Deep gratitude goes to both parties for them discovering my images and showing an interest.

Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success.
