Today was a day to truly enjoy Autumn in its finest glory. With the trees shining through in their yellows, oranges and reds. Heading towards Washington D.C. is the beautiful Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Park. With its visitors center on the Maryland side of Great Falls, this park is best known for its boulder scramble “Billy Goat Trail.”
A strenuous nine-mile hike over hill and dale. Through thick forests filled with autumn color, and climbing over boulders along the Potomac River. A trail not to be missed. A trail not for the faint of heart.
It will take me a little while to go through my images from today’s hike and I keep getting interrupted by Trick-or-Treaters.
I also discovered that my favorite processing software – Nik Color Efex Pro went on the fritz and I have reload, etc. So just a sampling from today to enjoy. Hope you’re having a wonderful and fun Halloween night. Bella

It’s said that All Hallows’ Eve is one of the nights when the veil between the worlds is thin – and whether you believe in such things or not, those roaming spirits probably believe in you, or at least acknowledge your existence, considering that it used to be their own. Even the air feels different on Halloween, autumn-crisp and bright.

Fabulous and perfect images of your hike – love each of them!
Hi Mary ! Hope you had a fabulous Halloween and had some trick-o-treaters. So happy that you enjoyed this hike with me. It was such a glorious day.
P.S. Happy Halloween!
Clearly I need to make a trip down to the states again! Beautiful photos 🙂
I hadn’t realized you’re a Canadian. Eeh?? You would have LOVED this hike. Right up your alley.
Onto one of many in my bucket list it is then! 😀
Beautiful photos ! I LOVE fall. My favorite time of year.
Thank you so much Susan ! I must agree, fall is a great season to enjoy.
What a beautiful area, not at all what I would think of in the DC area at all. My nephew was stationed at Andrews for over a year, and he must have missed that park.
Andrews is a little ways away from this place. I’m sure he was a busy boy when he was here. You would love this hike.
Looks a superb walk…one I definitely would do if I was there…and of course the pics are a joy to look at…glad you enjoyed it!
This hike is right up your alley ! Although there are no caves involved. However, lots of rock climbers are on the opposite Virginia side in the steep cliffs along the river.
Wonderful placera and great photos

This looks like a trail for me, a Capricorn 🙂 Wonderful photos!
I had no trick or treaters this year, but our neighborhood is very spaced out and it was pouring.
Then your birthday is coming up in a couple of months then! Happy early birthday!
I’d stay home too if it was raining out.
