Today was a full day playing with my new Canon 500mm L lens and shooting birds. Even though the horses called me, the lure of the fancy lens hypnotized me. It was a fantastic birding day, with more than six new birds that I’ve never seen before.
With that great zoom, I was able to capture the Thomas Point Light House from Thomas Point Park. It was an odd morning for lighting with this blueish haze that covered the water that seemed to radiate with heat.

What a cool lighthouse, and it’s a great shot, too!
Thank you so mucy L.S. It’s great to see you and hope you have a wonderful New Year!
Thank you for lighthouse.I love that picture.I am sailor and I like it.
I’m trying to find all of them for you Rimas so you won’t get lost when you sail around the world.
Wonderful lighthouse – I love lighthouses… 🙂
Me too Drake ! Would you believe that most of the lighthouses on the eastern seaboard were sold for private ownership? We could have lived in one!
I have always dreamed of living in a lighthouse… 🙂
Great photo… how can you even hold a 500mm??
LOL Sally ! I’ve been lifting weights. Making it a point to use it hand held all week. When I go to Florida next week with the 100-400mm it’ll seem light as a feather!
You go girl! Wow, enjoy Florida!
I love lighthouses! This one looks beautiful. Stunning photo 🙂
I’m hoping to get a closer view this year Judy. Too bad you aren’t here, we could go and explore it together.
Most definitely!! The lighthouses have so much detail that is extraordinary on all levels.
This is such a beautiful lighthouse, and you captured its magic so perfectly, Emily. 🙂
Thank you so much Sylvia. This does have a surreal feel to it doesn’t it. This was the natural look with only a little boost of the red for saturation.
That is great you saw new birds. Can’t wait for you to post them. Your photo is beautiful today. What a cool structure.
This is a working lighthouse that is important for Chesapeake Bay sailors. Thank you so much!
Not an easy shot to get from the park, I’ve tried with a 200mm. Nice photo!
And this photo was cropped a bit too. I agree, the light house seems closer than it really is. Thank you Nels!
Fantastic!!!
🙂
The 500 really brought that in nice Emily!
I’m in love..can you tell?
I sure can. 😀
For about the past two years I have been trying to decide which I want more, my motorcycle or a
500 4. I’m still thinking about it. 😕
No question in my mind Phil.
Yeah I know. More then likely going to decide for sure one way or another this Spring.
A new 500L? Sooooooooooooo jealous right now! hehe I clearly have missed a lot while on holidays Emily… 🙂
Yes you have Ian. I’m in love…..
lol… Well I hope the 2 of you have a very happy life together… I’m sure you will! 😀
That lighthouse is so cool, I’ve never seen one like that before.
