Autumn Days
By Estelle White
Autumn days, when the grass is jewelled
And the silk inside a chestnut shell
Jet planes meeting in the air to be refuelled
All these things I love so well
So I mustn’t forget
No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
I mustn’t forget.
Clouds that look like familiar faces
And a winter’s moon with frosted rings
Smell of bacon as I fasten up my laces
And the song the milkman sings.
So I mustn’t forget
No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
I mustn’t forget.
Whipped-up spray that is rainbow-scattered
And a swallow curving in the sky
Shoes so comfy though they’re worn out and they’re battered
And the taste of apple pie.
So I mustn’t forget
No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
I mustn’t forget.
Scent of gardens when the rain’s been falling
And a minnow darting down a stream
Picked-up engine that’s been stuttering and stalling
And a win for my home team.
So I mustn’t forget
No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
I mustn’t forget.
Let us all say thank you for the men and women who put their lives on the line to preserve our freedom.
Happy Veteran’s Day!

Truly beautiful tribute..We shall never forget and be eternally thankful for the freedom we enjoy today..!
I think about how easily we take for granted our freedoms. We are so fortunate to live where we do.
May this freedom last forever, and may those who don’t have this get a chance in the future. So important not to forget all those who fought.
This is so beautifully said Bente, and hopefully generations to come will remember.
Very nice!
Thanks Maya!
there is a real sense of smoothness in the second photo. low hills, a few clouds and a blue sky ………. very nice
Thanks Nelson! These rolling hills really set it off. Actually I cheated and did a HDR shot with my Canon 5D Mark III handheld, thus the softness. 🙂
HDR is not cheating, it’s enhancing
It was more the handheld nature of it. Um..not supposed to do that right?
Personally I see post-processing software with all its options as a tool that help you getting something artistically different, the same as you can change a photo by changing your aperture or the shutter speed or boost your ISO on your camera. It’s just that the software gives you more options.
In my view not every photo should be in HDR, sometime it does add a real interesting artistic effect and there is no sin in using it 😉
We certainly agree on this one Nelson.
This is wonderful and I love that top photo!
Thank you so much Paige ! Imagine if that was your farm?
A very meaningful tribute, Emily. Your photos are absolutely gorgeous.
Thank you so much Sylvia! True magic unfolding in front of me while I travel. Appreciate your kind words.
Hmmm, d’you know I cannot just read it, I have the tune in my head.
🙂
I’m so sorry that I did that to you. As an American, I had never heard of this song. Almost as bad as Disney’s “It’s a Small World.” 🙂
🙂
Remembrance Day is a profoundly moving day. You have captured the poignancy of the moment. It is where respect, grief and longing all come together. A most excellent tribute. Love the poem.
“The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater.” J.R.R. Tolkien.
You are able to put into words the sentiment and feeling that I have in my heart and soul. If only I had your true gift of expressing such deep emotion. Hugs!!
We make a dynamic duo…. 🙂 Hugs coming back….
