Dragonflies buzz by while Killdeer make their call, Kew Kew Kew.
A mother pretends to be injured while her children swim to safety among the water lilies.
But some of them didn’t hear the call for safety and lingered along the shore.
Mama calls for her babies to come out to the water lilies.
At last the family is together.
To float among the pink and white blossoms.
Blending in the colors of the sea of lilies.

What’s so funny is that I tried to hard to find them last year and couldn’t find them. This year I see mamas and babies all over the place.

The little puff balls are very cute, and I’m very jealous! Wood ducks are one of the few species of critters that don’t like me or allow me to get close to them.
Is that right? You actually have a nemesis bird? I find that so hard to believe as you’re such a bird whisperer. Hope you’re having a wonderful summer.
The summer has been a good one so far, and yes, wood ducks seem to hate me for some reason. I may have to cheat and go to a duck pond at a park to get good photos of them.
