In the spirit of my oncoming trip to Peru and the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, following are photos from my journey in 2009 to Cuzco. My family and I took the one-day hike from the Urubamba River to Machu Picchu, but I really wanted more.
Since that time I’ve been training towards being able to hike the four-day Classic Inca Trail Trek, which I’m heading off to in the beginning of May. It’s been a long and sometimes painful journey, but the reward will be glorious!

Isn’t it funny how things happen? Hope things are looking up for you now.
Just hiked 7.2 miles – I think I damaged myself. Heading to bed.
You’ve finally gotten to the big leagues ! Welcome ! Let me tell you, my legs would be sore for several days after hiking and that went on for about 3 years. It’s so worth it !!
I keep telling my husband that it hurt at 2 miles when we started – we are making progress 🙂 About a mile a week.
LOL ! That’s the way to go! Look how quickly you got to 7 miles. Good for you!
I hope to it to Machu Pichu one day. Love the photo with the sheep.
You mean the Llama ? LOL !
yes, oops.
You go girl!!!!
Thank you ! Let’s hope I don’t croak on “Dead Woman’s Pass”
13,800 ft above sea level is some crazy hiking! Hats off to you when you make it to the top – we expect to see some gorgeous pictures. Just remember that you are lean, mean, hiking machine!
Thank you so much ! I really hope it all goes well with that crazy altitudes. Crawl..rest step..pressure breathing. That’s my plan.
Love the photos, especially the last one. He’s such a poser. HA!
Thank you so much ! Yes, the Llamas in the morning at Machu Picchu just pose there for tourist photos.
