There are still a few places on the Florida eastern coast that allows you to drive on the beach.
Crescent Beach just south of St. Augustine Beach is one of those places. With its wide open beach, particularly during low tide, and powder soft sand that squeaks under your feet Crescent Beach is one of Florida’s pristine beaches. Primarily residential with low-rise condominiums and newer homes, Crescent Beach is a perfect place to take family and friends. Near Route 206 and on A1A is a fabulous restaurant that has been a mainstay in Crescent Beach. The The South Beach Grill offers breakfast, lunch and dinner with a flair along the soft sand dunes of the beach. A multitude of vacation rentals are available on Crescent Beach at Vacation Rental by Owner (VRBO) and the The Beachers Lodge is a condo/hotel.
After visiting the Alligator Farm in St. Augustine Beach, I had some time to drive down to Crescent Beach and cruise the ocean.
There had been some busy people on the beach enjoying their leisure time on the soft sands and salty breezes and built sand castles. The best one was of a dragon laying in the sun with seashells decorating his back. I was told that I had missed the Roman Colosseum which had been built the day before.
Of course, you can’t be along the ocean’s edge without enjoying the birds darting in and out of the surf looking for dinner. Seagulls, sandpipers and sanderlings were enjoying the early evening.
It was time for me to start heading home so I took one last look at Crescent Beach remembering my childhood summers playing in its waves.
