No African safari is complete without checking off the “Big Five” list. What is the Big Five? Well, they are the five animals considered the most dangerous to hunt by foot.
These include: Lion, elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros, and the leopard.
While many visitors look only for the “Big Five” there are so many other animals and countless bird species that they may miss while in search for the safari’s Holy Grail.
The Ngorongoro Crater is home for a small group of Black Rhinoceros to help complete one’s list of the Big Five. Depending on the time of year, they are easier to find. The crater is large enough that they have small migratory patterns within the volcanic basin.
Our visit allowed us to have a fairly decent view of their Rhinos. Not one but two ! The second day, we saw them really far away. So I thank my lucky stars that we were able to enjoy them.

Quite the creatures, I’m glad that there’s a conservation project to protect them from going extinct 🙂
There is a good group in the crater, so yes it is good they’re being protected. Their horns are a prized catch for hunters & medicine people.
Which I why I dislike them being hunted for those, amazing beings these guys 🙂
Crazy looking. Almost pre-historic. Great seeing your cheery face Andy.
🤗 thank you!
I believe that animals are only dangerous when human stupidity intervenes! We should leave them well alone!
And to think it’s only the tip of the iceberg Fatima. I agree, we should stop killing them unneccesarily.
