Mixed in with all of the gulls at Sandy Point Park this week were a few terns. It was as if I was looking for a needle in the haystack between the huge flock of gulls. Surely one of these is not like the other.
Indeed, this caspian tern blended in on the beach in attempts to resemble a gull. But his unmistakeable beak color and little mohawk head stood out.
Along the boat ramps, a pair of Forster’s terns stood with their heads tucked in from the heavy winds. It didn’t take long for them to become accustomed to my presence and eventually got bored. Expressing it with a big yawn.
They reminded me of The Byrd’s song “Turn, Turn, Turn.”
The first shot, I can’t believe it managed to hide a beak THAT big to groom, :O
