What great shots! They all are tack sharp down to the captured water beads falling from the fish and, oh how I wish I could create such vibrant color without getting a fake, oversaturated look. The first, showing the bird landing is my favorite but in sequence they tell the story. The bird’s reflection is the last photo adds a lot too. Again, what great shots!
Thank you so much for your generous and kind comment. The right light really helps with getting the colors nice and vibrant. I also post process all of my images in Lightroom which helps enhance colors in my images.
The guts of these birds has no difficulties dissolving bones…just adds a little more calcium to their diets! Emily besides being a superb photographer and naturalist, you are such a wonderful humanitarian to serve this heron such a super breakfast! π

Have a wonderful day!
Oof whatever happens to fish bone and stuff? yipes!
I really hate to even think about it Andy. But somehow, they manage it whole.
Beautifully captured.
Thank you so much Mike ! This was an unexpected find, and with great morning light. I was so blessed that day.
Superb photos Emily π
Thank you so much ! Hope you’re still hiking like mad.
I love Herons. Never get tired of seeing them. So majestic! Beautifully captured. Well done! π
Me neither, and it’s near impossible for me to get great shots of them. This little rookery was such a gem. Thank you Fatima.
Such glorious captures – that first one of the heron landing – just AMAZING! π
You are truly too kind Joanne. Thank you so very much. I do love that shot quite a bit.

I learned that this is a herring fish. So a Heron with a Herring..go figure. Thanks Herb for your comments.
That first shot is a beauty Emily, well they all are, but love the action in the first one.
Thank you so much Leanne ! That really is a winning shot isn’t it? We may just have to use it for your magazine.
The landing looks like he was falling on his buttocks! I’m still laughing at what I perceived as a wipe out!
LOL ! That is funny – actually he managed to land quite gracefully. Go figure. π
Ever so fantastic picures!
Have a great week,
Pit
You are so sweet Pit. Thank you so much and hope you’re week is going out well doo.
Such an amazing photo series, one of my favorite creatures in this world.
You are truly too kind Charlie. Thank you so very much and thrilled that you enjoyed this series. Hope all is well with you.
Such a great series Emily. I particularly like the crazy one at the top! So nice to see interesting poses instead of the old heron on a log! π
Isn’t that the truth ! There are so many herons just standing pictures. I was so thrilled to get them actually doing something!
Nailed this shot – Sharp!
Indeed I did. Thanks!
Fantastic shots. Love the one where its coming in for a landing.
Me too ! One of my favorites ever. See that little strand of hair flying in the breeze? Thank you so much.
