With the spring like day, the zoo was filling to the brim with family and children. Enjoying the natural sights and sounds of the wildlife throughout the Smithsonian National Zoo.
The bird area is well laid out with a wide variety of exotic birds to enjoy. It was great to spend the morning with these feathered friends, treasuring their natural beauty.

It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad.

There’s so much unique beauty to all of them especially the ones with the beautiful patterns 🙂
I could visit the zoo every day and never get bored photographing the wildlife. Wonder if I could get paid to do it?
With your amazing works, I’m very sure of it 🙂
As usual, gorgeous photos. I especially enjoy the visual contrasts in the Flamingo photo!
Thanks Judy ! The Flamingos are really awesome.
Incredible imagery! Great job (as usual) 🙂
You do make me smile Cynthia. Thank you so much for your kind comment.
Peacock, I love peacock. Gee, I didn’t know we are like eggs. Hmmmm….
LOL !! Very funny Perpetua. Think of it though, we did start as an egg. 🙂
I love C.S. Lewis!!! 🙂
Me too ! The Chronicles of Narnia – wow !!
They’re all great, but I like the expression on the face of the Stanley crane.
Isn’t that a cool face? I just loved the color, and shape of his head.
Excellent shots, I love the bright pink of the flamingos.
They are so funny to watch. They put their necks really high and look forward and backward and honk. Saying “Where..Where..there..there???”
that C.S. Lewis quote has me both smiling and wondering.
That is so wonderful. To get us thinking of perspectives we never imagined.
This set is awesome! I loved the sunbittern ‘look’… it reminded me of the looks I usually got from my mother! Haha! 🐥🐣
I’m guessing that when your mom gave you that look, every one scattered.
Nice series Em
Thank you so much Mark!
Loving the Birds:)
That makes two of us Renee. Thanks! 🙂
Nice!
Thank you!
I bet they would pay you! I second that. I’m hoping to make some trips this year to the Brookfield Zoo outside of Chicago. I’m thinking zoos, like botanical centers, are ripe with learning opportunities!
I really like your choice of birds here, great variety. A few everyone would know, Flamingos & Peacocks, but then you went and picked some beautifully different and even odd characters. I too think the face of the Stanley Crane is very special. If I could guess the others…
The Bittern is like, “Huh, what’s up guys, what’s going on?” The owl says, “Nothing, I’m just sweet, no trouble here.” The Pintail is trying so hard not to be seen, if not for that white patch he’d be invisible! Studly the Peacock says, “Yeah, sure, hurry up take the pic I’m eating. I’m beautiful, I know it.” And Stanley…he’s got me stumped…you win Stanley…

Oh and I always appreciate sharp colors. When I take pictures especially of such beautiful creatures like colorful birds I’m always hoping to capture the depth of the colors, the contrast, and sharpness of detail in the feathers and features of the bird. You do this so well I can’t help but mention it every time! And I won’t stop.
Great pictures!
Thank you so much!
