It was one of those mornings, warmed by the early sun and the waning of the autumn leaves. When flocks of thousands of geese moved throughout the sky in search of warmer climes.
The large National Wildlife Refuge provides a safe haven for a wide variety of birds. Whether it be waterfowl, shorebirds, or song birds.
Watching the dancing aerial ballet of the large flocks of birds in the symphony of nature.
Looking closely within, several surprises were contained among the many.
Charming faces always willing to greet, but with curiosity for safety.
For good reason as threats are always flying above.
Whether they fly high or dine low, these avian beauties are there if you look for them.

Your bird photos are as always very good., and good to see such nice wildlife refuge.
You are so sweet Bente, and I always love it when you stop by for a visit. Got to admit, I’ve become a total bird head. I love it though. Would you believe that this wildlife refuge was having controlled hunting conducted there the day after I was there?
Too many deer I suppose.
These are really beautiful.
I humbly thank you Lisa. Appreciate your visit.
Lovely birds. I wish I could fly with them.
Wouldn’t that be glorious? To feel the wind in your hair and to see the world from above.
You got your snow bunting and so many more wonderful photos! Now I know what a Marbled Godwit looks like!
But, I do believe that your “Northern Harrier” is really a female Cooper’s hawk, as the harriers have black wing-tips that contrast with mostly white underwings, but I could be wrong.
Perhaps you may be right, although none of my birding friends on FB corrected me. I know I saw 6 harriers that day as the white spot on the upper tail was clearly visible. They were just too far to get a decent image.
Yes..this is a harrier. I can see the coopers now in the wings of the posted one.
Well, I almost didn’t say anything because you’re so good with your IDs, and because you’re such a sweetheart, which may be why others didn’t say anything. I have no doubt that you saw harriers, but I don’t think that the photo is one of them.
Hey, I’m all for ID corrections and I get many wrong. Believe me the real experts have no problem chiming in. 🙂 Thanks for your kind compliment. XXOO
It looks like a marvellous walk!
It was a fabulous adventure ! You would have loved it Fatima.
Such beautiful shots – lots of patience required?
If you had any idea Lynne…The number of hours I’ve wasted just standing around waiting for something to happen. It’s actually a glorious thing!
I like how it starts “hours wasted” and ends in “glorious thing!” 🙂
🙂
As always, wonderful photos of birds I’ll never have the patience or focus to shoot 😀 Thanks for sharing!
Always a pleasure to share these with you Ilex. BTW, love your count down timer to spring – four months?? Eeh Gads!!
I was widget browsing and I couldn’t help myself 😀
