The geese didn’t disappoint today, and with a quick visit I was able to witness three flushes of at least 25,000 geese filling the skies. It didn’t take long to fill my 32 gig memory card, so now the assignment of trudging through all of the images to pick out the best ones.
I was playing around in Nik Color Efex with this image and clicked on something that created this painted image. I thought it interesting and wanted to share. What do you think? I’ll share more images of the geese with you tomorrow.

So cool! 🙂 🙂
It was awe inspiring to see them all fly through the sky at one time honking at each other.
Your camera can do that! Wow, awesome. I like what see.
Oh just you wait ! I have one shot that is absolutely out of this world!
Oh..the effects is not the camera, it’s software after the fact. Ditto with the B&W effect. I use software on the computer to create that.
Oh, Emily! How beautiful…
Thank you so much Rebecca. I should send you a copy for your wall. 🙂
There is magic in your lens – you bring out the very best of a moment.
Thank you birds so a beautiful, please stop on my blog soon I am leaving solo sailing around the world in a very tiny sailboat San Juan 24-foot from Washington state probably in may of 2013
You truly are brave Rimas, and I hope your preparations for your world-wide sail is going well.
Wow, amazing capture!!!
Thank you ! So happy you enjoyed this.
Snow Geese stop in Washington State as part of their migration pattern. It is amazing to see entire farm fileds covered as the stop to rest up before taking to the air again
I can only imagine how many snow geese you get to see on the west coast. That must be an incredible sight.
Beautiful, excellent captured… 🙂
LOL ! You are too cute Drake..Thank you so much.
A wonderful spectacle and a great picture. 🙂
Thank you so much for your kind words Fatima.
Very beautiful. Which filter in Nik? That must be a sight to see, I love it.
Haha, I only wish I knew. I just kept trying options and it just magically happened. I tried to retrace my steps but couldn’t do it. Seems Nik doesn’t maintain the photo edit history like lightroom. I’ll keep trying to find it though for us.
Ok, here is my best guess: Detail Extractor, Remove Color Cast, White Neutralizer, Photo Stylizer.
Good luck!
Emily – That’s quite a flock. Nicely captured.
Thank you so much Tom. Hope all is well with you.
This photograph is an amazing shot, I love the tremendous freedom that is felt through your lens. Gorgeous against the blue sky – fantastic work on this trip!
Thank you so very much Mary. You would be amazed with the natural beauty of the flock when in flight. It was awe inspiring.
You know, I’ve had some shots turn out looking much like that when I’ve downloaded them from my camera, and promptly deleted them, as they weren’t sharp and clear. Then, I think that I shouldn’t have deleted them, as I do like the artistic aspect, and I really like seeing your photo. You are making me rethink my never edit anything nature philosophy, as I do really admire the photos that you edit and post. But, that’s because you do it extremely well, not like so many others.
BTW, it must have been a good weekend for birding, I filled both of my 2 GB cards on Sunday, one of mostly eagles, the other, mostly waterfowl.
You are too funny Jerry. 2 gigs? Ha! That is 2 images of mine in the RAW mode. You are very kind to like my photo edits as I know it’s not your cup of tea. The duck shots are the more normal edits that just enhance the color, sharpness and reduction of shadows on the face that you would appreciate.
I knew you would find the 2 gigs funny, my old Nikon needs to be replaced! As far as your photo edits, you are enhancing your photos, not trying to make something from nothing like so many people do.
You have such high standards of photographers you’re willing to follow, and I appreciate you keeping me in the ‘club.’ 🙂
Great capture. Love seeing the power and wonder of migration in your photo.
Thank you so much Allison. It is really a marvel to witness.
Wonderful!
Thanks Maya.
Awesome! Green with envy that your got to see this wondrous scene in person 🙂
Aw Madhu, you know I’d take you if I could. Thank you so much for your kind words.
Wow, and wow again!! This is brilliant. Looks like a painting. So beautiful 🙂
Thank you so much Judy ! I love the blues in this one. 🙂
