We’ll go for a two-fer this weekend as the Chesapeake Bay offers a contrast of nature and industry along the waterways. First let’s enjoy the beauty of our natural surroundings with the sounds of rustling reeds in the wind along the water. Where birds go to hide and find little bugs to chew on in the stalks.
The lovely bright day shines and reflects all that stands in the water. But yet, if you look across the waterway from the naturally preserved area, that’s when the Contradiction occurs. With this smoke blowing chimney at an industrial plant.
Just one of the many industrial plants along the Patapsco River that leads into Baltimore Harbor. Such a contradiction as the Chesapeake Bay is best known for its natural beauty. But large and bold hold industry along much of this precious waterfront.
Canon 7D, 500mm F4.0 L. 1/500 sec, f/7.1, ISO 320, daylight white balance. Adjustments made in Lightroom with OnOne filters added.

Great Shots! Thanks for sharing
You are so kind Ana Lucia, and wonderful seeing you!
Beautiful shots, each tells a story… π
You would have enjoyed this walk through the woods Drake.
I think I will buy one of them Canon camera to have good pictures like yours Ms. Bella. The sweet oat grass is calling me. Lovely.
It’s not all about the camera. A good eye, nice lighting and some decent post processing will get you there. You’ve seen some of my iphone photos and they aren’t half bad.
Beautiful Captures – my fav is the 2nd one:)
Thanks Renee ! I like the blue in the piling too.
Great shots!!!
Thank you so much Rexlin ! Hope you’re doing well.
Love the juxtaposition! It does bring to mind a conversation that I had with a Michigan CO last year while tracking down the snowy owls. We were laughing at the owls because despite all of the undeveloped land in Michigan, the owls chose to winter at a wastewater treatment facility. We were watching bald eagles as we talked, about how man, industry, and nature can all coexist if it is done the right way.
i wouldn’t want to see an industrial plant built in the Pigeon River Country, but we do need industry to provide both jobs and the products that we need. We can only hope that we’ve learned to do things the right way from now on.
I agree, that allowing a balance between man and nature is so essential. The problem is that man tends to be greedy and nature needs a voice to protect them. Nature does surprise us though and adapts the best they can.
love the first one, very beautiful π
Thank you so much Evelyn !
love those grasses.. and the piling reflection. There are two mills in the our vicinity, but they are isolated, thankfully.
Interesting, but also think of the job loss. That part is sad.
Beautiful! The sea oats look 3-D…not an easy capture, for sure! Lovely!
LOL ! It was easier than you think Tricia. These grasses are all over the bay, and get some backlighting and some editing in Lightroom and voila! So happy you enjoyed that one.
We probably passed each other on the road yesterday. I was near Brandon Shores with almost the same view yesterday afternoon. Small world….
I have never heard of Brandon Shores. Whatever where you doing there? It does seem like we were two passing ships in the night.
Excellent Emily! You are right about the contradiction. Nature and industry colliding.
Thanks Phil ! It’s a love/hate relationship.
Very nice mix! WOOF WOOF π π
Thanks Maggie ! BTW, I’m still having problems with my comments ending up in spam, so I just sent support a message. I’ll be back soon, I promise!
First I saw the sea oats and thought.., stunning. And then I scrolled down to reflections of a piling and thought, brilliant. And then I saw that there were 2 more gorgeous pictures. Emily, you definitely made a point with this post. Wow!! Natural and man made.., huge difference.
Thank you so much Judy ! I tell you, it’s that monster baby of that lens I own now. LOVE IT ! it was a wonderful afternoon along the water.
I love the detail and the composition of your photos.
Thank you so much Charlie for stopping by and leaving several comments. You are indeed to kind, and it’s great meeting you!
The Sea Oats is stunning, I love the lighting – great catch!
Thank you so much Mary ! I can see you easily incorporating the grass into one of your paintings. So lucky are you, to be able to create your own world as you see it in your mind.
The Sea Oats are stunning, but it is that reflection shot that speaks to me! Awesome!
That’s wonderful Madhu ! Thank you so very much.
Fabulous shots, Emily. I love that reflection of the piling. π
LOVE ‘Reflection of a Piling’!!
