Our footsteps were last traveling along the paved walkway at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area in northern Palm Beach County, Florida. Just a hop-skip and a jump across the road, standing tall for all the world to see is the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum.
Built in 1860 on an Indian Shell Mound, the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is listed with the National Register of Historical Places. It is the oldest existing structure in Palm Beach County that was once so isolated food deliveries were made only once a year. With its shining light that can be seen up to 25 miles away, the lighthouse has provided safe passage for seafaringn vessels.
Located at Jupiter Inlet, the lighthouse is open during the day for visitors.
Jupiter Inlet is considered to be one of the most dangerous inlets in the area. Its narrow passage of only 400 feet, shifting sandbars, and fast breaking waves challenges even expert seamen. The inlet tempts boaters with its teal blue water fed from the Gulf Stream, a sea siren in its own right.
With the gulf stream within five miles from shore, water from the Bahama Islands is drawn into the inlet and the beautiful blue Caribbean sea can be seen meeting the green-brown waters of the Intracoastal waterways.
On the grounds of Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse, an active Coast Guard facility allows quick access to the ocean. With tall palm trees lining up with the lighthouse, and their sounds of rustling in the wind, this is what natural Florida is all about.
A truly picturesque and fully operational lighthouse, the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse has been standing guard for over 150 years. Restaurants across the Intracoastal waterways provide stunning views of the lighthouse in morning and night.Β The brilliantly red lighthouse is a beacon for land and water travelers and is a truly unique lighthouse and worthy of a visit.

It’s such a wonderful enclave of Florida, where the wealth is “old money.” Jupiter Island is where Tiger Woods has a house, same as Greg Norman and Randy Jackson.
