It’s springtime and the beautiful blossoms have been beckoning me to enjoy them at Hillwood Museum, Gardens & Estate in Washington D.c.
A stunning estate with immaculately maintained gardens that continue to mesmerize. It’s one of my favorite places to visit in springtime. A garden of eden in the busy metropolis. Where one can step back in time and imagine what it was like for Marjorie Merriweather Post to walk on the grass in her elegant Roaring 20’s gown.
This photo walkabout created a bit of a technical stir at home though. One of my favorite software programs, the Nik Collection offered by Google is now available for free, has been really buggy on my end.
About a year ago I noticed it was pixelating my images upon import rendering it pointless to work on the image as it was already destroyed. So I gave up and couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t working. I had heard some rumors that it doesn’t work properly with Lightroom versions above 5.6, and I have Lightroom 5.7 and now the Lightroom Creative Cloud. On both the Windows 8 and Windows 10 platforms.
I removed the collection and reinstalled the software on the Windows 8 platform. Wanting to use it with the Creative Cloud Lightroom version, I could not find the plug ins on the Photo -> Edit in -> menu.
Come to find out, it’s an easy fix: “”Occasionally, after running a Nik Collection installer, the software may not be installed correctly in Adobe Lightroom. This seems to occur because the “Store Presets with Catalog” option in Lightroom’s Preferences is checked. This option is in Edit > Preferences > Presets OR Lightroom > Preferences > Presets. Un-checking this box will make all of the plug-ins appear in the Photo > Edit In menu.”
Thrilled to get it back on my older laptop. But I know I’ll eventually want to migrate to my new laptop but for some reason the Nik Collection, while works with the Windows 10 platform, it comes up with teeny, tiny writing and you can’t see what you’re doing.
So for now, keep with the Windows 8 version if you want to use the Nik Collection in pair with either Lightroom or Photoshop.

Nik happens to work fine on my Windows 10 the few times I’ve used it lately. Too bad there is no support for NIK any more. I switched to using on1 because of that. on1 is really powerful and worth the price. Have you tried it? I want my presets included in my catalogue because when I migrate or backup my catalogue I don’t want to lose my settings so I would never change that setting. You can try uninstalling it and downloading a new install of NIK.
