Sometimes in the least likely of places can be found large colonies of shore birds. Such is Nickerson Beach on Long Island, New York. Known for its nesting shorebirds including Common terns, Black skimmers, Oystercatchers, and Least terns, it’s a haven for not only birds but also bird photographers.
I’m spending a glorious four days in a photography workshop being offered by Denise Ippolito, a world wide renowed nature and wildlife photographer.
A true honor to be in the presence of such an accomplished photographer, wonderful teacher and kind person. It’s really early mornings, and late afternoons with naps in between, but the birds make it all worthwhile.
Today is just a sample of some of the beautiful scenes we’re enjoying. Stay tuned as I’ll be able to post more once I return home in a few days.
Aloha from the beach. Bella
Quite the crowded place with interesting feathery tourists! π
I’m so glad I’m here during the week. The beach is packed with people during the weekend. Amazing how tolerant the birds are.
They probably seen people so much that they barely notice anymore eh ππ
Has that bird got a fish in its mouth or I’m imagining things?
Wonderful picture and enjoy your adventure!
Indeed it is a fish, intended for a young one. Great catch Dharmesh.
Thanks! It’s such a beautiful one and nearly invisible.
What pretty birds they are.
I loved these Common terns. The beach was filled with them in varying ages.
Excellent!
Merci De Bec!
My name is not De Bec but it’s funny. My name is JΓ©rΓ΄me. “De bec” means “nozzle” in french. π
Sorry about that Jerome, I should have looked at your blog to get your name first before replay.
Thanks for your understanding.
That’s a fantastic photo….love the shallow depth of field you’ve got in this shot Em, considering the birds look quite close together.
Thanks Mark ! Man talk about a literal pain in the neck. But the shot is worth the pain. π
Sometimes you have to suffer for your art π
Oh lucky lucky you! π
You’re right Fatima. This trip was AMAZING !!
