Columbines
by: Teresa Hooley (1888-1973)
Airily poised in the garden bed,
Delicate saffron, white and rose,
With gossamer petals lightly spread
The columbines flutter upon their toes.
Wait, till the moonlight sets them free!
They’ll stir, they’ll shake off the dew, they’ll go
Dancing, dancing (but you’ll not see–
You’ll be too busy asleep to know).
Someone surprised them once in May,
Glimmering ivory, gold, and pink,
Dancing under the moon. That way
Columbines found their name, I think.

I’m always impressed with this flower, retaining so much color on top despite upside down π
This really is such a delicate and unique flower. And like you said – upside down really makes it intriguing.
Absolutely π
Their sheer fragility gives them eternal beauty.
So beautifully stated Fatima. Indeed they seem so fragile, but yet so strong.
By the way, I hope you don’t mind, but I have nominated you for the 5 day challenge as you have such stunning photography on so many different subjects.
Here is how it works: Post a photo each day for five consecutive days and attach a story to the photo. It can be fiction or non-fiction, a poem or a short paragraph and each day nominate another blogger for the challenge.
I really hope you can take part. π
Absolutely Fatima ! Ok..so nominator’s choice. What should the 5 photos subject be? You know I have plenty. π
That’s entirely up to you. There is brief on that, only that you post a picture in 5 consecutive days with a short paragraph, story or poem to go with it and that you nominate another person to do the same each day. So glad you can take part! Thank you. π
We saw so many up in Alaska. I was surprised to see so many in the garden we visited in Skagway. I also have some in the garden if you’d like some seeds.
Is that right? How wonderful your Alaska trip must have been. Are you back already? And tempting on those seeds. π
lovely narrow depth of field
