Today I was given a new nickname “Pink Neck of the Manor.” Yesterday I was out on a trail ride at the barn with Remy Martin and along the way we caught sight of two fox kits playing on along the edge of the woods.
I had been thinking of getting a blind so that I could hide and let the wildlife get closer to me. After all, I did just recently purchase Camouflage clothing, so it was time to complete the package. I hadn’t quite decided exactly what type of blind to get, so a quick run to Bass Pro Shops and coming out with a bag full of more camouflage and a camo tarp. The next stop was by the pet food store to purchase some dog and puppy food to set out for them.
Clearly I had found the fox’s playground. Lots of little trails winding through the under brush, with some little fox poops along the way. I set up the tarp and pulled out a little fold up stool.
Setting out the food right in the area where they play, I began the wait…and the wait. Started to get bored pretty darn quick. Started texting a friend saying..no foxes. Then suddenly a brown animal caught my eye through the tarp. It’s one of the baby foxes! He was so darling and as soon as I moved and began taking pictures he noticed me. At first he sat down, but then ran off.
About ten minutes later he returned and had discovered the little food pile. He was enjoying it, but as soon as that shutter began clicking he ran off again. I waited almost another hour but he never returned. The morning was getting warm so it was time to go for a horse ride. I went back later to see if the fox had come out and finished the food, but it was left untouched.
I’ll be back tomorrow and see if they enjoyed their little treat. I left the tarp out so that they could check it out and get used to it.
So how did I become named the Pink Neck? Well, I would say that any girl that wears camouflage and hides out behind a camouflage tarp is pretty much a Red Neck. However, I was missing the warm beer and a blue tarp. So not being a full-blown Red Neck and being a girl guess that makes me Pink Neck.
So the fox stalking has just begun, here’s hoping for more gallery shots to come.

Awesome, been dying to see fox kits.
Me too ! I was about to drive to Delaware or New Jersey to find some and lo and behold here they are!
I get the feeling you may have made a cute little furry friend π
It’s going to take him a bit to get used to me. The adult male fox is very used to horse and rider and doesn’t react at all when crossing paths. He just chills out and says “Hey..what you doing?”
lol maybe he should meet bugs bunny then with that kind of charming personality π
That’s awesome that you got a really cool shot of the fox!
Thank you so much Michael ! I can’t believe how much time I’m willing to waste just to get one shot. π
I’m not sure that I have the patience to wait in a blind like that, but if it gets you shots like your final one, I might have to reconsider. The little fox seems to radiate a kind of cautious curiosity.
It really does take lots of patience and boredom sets in rather quickly. Thanks to smartphones I can at least play on Facebook. Believe me, he knew someone was in his living room.
Again, your patience amazes me! I guess knowing there is a great payoff like more of those cutie furry pix… I’d be a bit more patient. .. Naa, prolly not! Ha!
I need to thank the horses for teaching me patience. It’s been so much more grounding in my spirit to be willing to stand still and enjoy what is around me. You should try it!
You can’t be a true redneck until you start wearing camo underwear, which I know Bass Pro Shops sold at one time. I’m not sure that I’d have the patience to sit in a blind more than 15 minutes or so. BTW, the photo is fabulous, now I’m the jealous one.
See..I thought this would be right up your alley. Hard to imagine that you can’t sit still for longer than 15 minutes. I think it was totally worth the wait.
Hummm camo underwear. Now that’s an interesting thought. Could also go commando. Does that count?
TMI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Camouflage! You really are an adventurer. My computer had a meltdown a couple of days ago so I have been computerless for a few days. Great to be back and reading your posts! π
OH you poor child ! I can’t imagine not having a computer for several days. Although..I really can. It is so liberating ! Imagine how much more you did that didn’t involve sitting in front of a screen.
And then, on top of everything, we had power outages. Lots of building going on around here. So yes, I found that I had “real” books to read. π But it is great to be connected again.
I love your little hide: it obviously does the job. What a great picture! We used to see foxes and deer in the field behind our house first thing in the morning when we took our dog for his walk, but the Council in all their wisdom decided to build houses there 3 years ago and I haven’t seen one since. Sob. π¦
Oh that is so sad Fatima. I’m sue you really miss them and in the name of progress.
Awwwww, I would so love to see these guys in their element!! Such a cutie!! Love the tarp, might have to get one myself, Pink Neckππ
It’s actually pretty cool and really easy to use. I was looking at those tent types, and talk about complicated and heavy. Now I’d love to see what you would do with one.
OMG – COOL Capture – love it π Happy Week!
Thank you so much Renee !! Hope the week is fantastic for you.
Pink, red, brown? The beer will make us blush especially at that cute fox! Look at the sweet face.
Indeed, warm beer would be embarrassing wouldn’t it. He is such a sweet fox – I’m going to try again this weekend to see if I can catch him.
What fun !! I love these little guys. I had the blessing of an entire spring with a fox family and mom was very trusting with them and me!
You are truly blessed Jim. There is a male fox that walks the horse trails and is really used to us. Could care less if we walk by him. These babies are being cautious for now.
