Have a question for you my dear readers. About three years ago, I began this blog “Hoofbeats and Footprints.” My intention was to blog about hiking in Maryland and Equitrekking in exotic places.
However, over the years my photography interests have evolved into wildlife and nature photography. I’ve been playing with the idea of changing the name of my blog to better reflect the material I’m posting. While I’m reluctant to lose the current name of my blog (it is unique) I think it’s time to update the name.
Should I go with my photography business name, or one of these creative names? Please vote and let me know. Suggestions also welcome
Thank you!!
Emily aka Bella

I don’t know…the other suggestions are good, however Hoof Beats and Foot prints is a really unique name:) I think if you changed it, maybe Feathered Friends would be a good name.
Thanks for letting me know. Starting to believe I should keep the Hoof Beats name.
I love your current name. I accept that it doesn’t totally fir every thing you post, but it is an adventurous name. If you really want to change it, Wild Pursuits would be my choice from your list of options. Good luck with whatever you decide on.
Thanks for your feedback. It helps me tremendously and encourages me that the current name is just fine. π
Hi Emily,
If you are having clients look at your work online it should be a new site under your business name.
Just my opinion.
~Steve
Thanks Steve for your expert input.
I do have a smugmug site with the Bella Remy Photography name. So many people in my area are now familiar with that name that I believe I’ll do what Bente suggests – just add Bella Remy Photography below the current blog name.
When I was at a Photho business marketing workshop they suggested that you put your own name in the name of the business unless you’re planning to build it up and sell it. I’ve looked at a lot of the really big pros and they all use their name. The reasoning given was that it’s your artistic expression and you’re the artist so the name should show that.
If I was smart enough when I started this photography thing I would have used just my name. Hubby didn’t want me using it on the blog (a privacy thing). So..that being said, the Bella Remy Photography name has gained familiarity in my area and I can’t just throw it away.
So “Bella Remy Photography by Emily Carter Mitchell” is the long winded version. I need to use the Carter as there are other Emily Mitchell photographers in the U.S.
Your current name, in my opinion is very good. I imagine a farm, and by extension, all of nature. However, if you do change names, let us know. π
Ok, based on your and other people’s feedback I’m keeping the Hoof Beats & Foot Prints name. Thanks!
I have to say I’m glad of it. I wish you a happy weekend! π
I thin your current name covers a lot of ground. It could mean anything. I hope you keep it.
Thanks to you and others that voted today, Decided the current name is a keeper.
l like it as it is because I know it’s you and it is such an unique name! You’re still walking and leaving footprints behind, so I’d keep the name.
I trust your advice and will keep the current name. Yep..still walking and still riding. Just no exotic riding trips. π
Glad to hear it! Good choice! π
If you really want to change the great name you presently have and be easily identified; “Bella Remy Photography” says it best.
Thank you so much Eddie ! What I’ve decided is to keep the Hoofbeats title and add the Bella Remy Photography underneath. Thanks for your input.
You will likely never ask yourself this question again if you use “Bella Remy Photography”.
If it was only so easy Maya. I really should have started this journey with just my name. Now it’s just a mess. I’m going to keep the title and put the Bella Remy Photography underneath it. Thank you!
I love your present name. What is you use Hoof Beats and Footprints, and then add your real name/businessname in smaller letters?
I think that’s the solution Bente. Most people like the original name, so I think I’ll do just that. Thanks for your input, it really helps.
Yes, I agree with Bente!
Yes, I also agree with Bente. Keep name, add business name as tag line.
Well, my opinion, for what it’s worth, is that you should continue this blog with its current name for your personal photos, and start a new blog for your professional work.
I like Bella Remy Photography because it’s a name that people will remember and allows you to have a variety of subjects because you never know when you might want to shoot architecture or people, etc. In other words your artistic names gives you flexibility and freedom, plus it’s you “the one and only.”
I’ve been away for a couple of days – I think you have already decided that you will keep the original name. Here’s my thoughts: The branding process is not a straight line; it is more likely to have twists and turns. I have followed your blog for about 2 1/2 years. What comes to mind is a quote by Seth Godin (I love his blog!!!)
βAn artist is someone who uses bravery, insight, creativity, and boldness to challenge the status quo. And an artist takes it personally.β Seth Godin, Linchpin: Are You Indispensable?
You are an artist, Emily! Whatever you do, whatever name you choose, you will be remarkable!
Has that much time passed already? I can’t believe we’ve been friends for over two years. It’s amazing that you have been in my life for such a wonderful journey we’ve been on. We’ve grown and learned together and enjoyed each other’s company all along the way. Hugs!
Personally I like yours as it is though I know you as the other π I am OK with you having 4 blogs π they are free π
You overestimate me, there is no way I could keep up with four blogs. I”m keeping things as they are. Thanks!
π Great!
I like it how it is now, I think you made an awesome decision. I feel kind of bad for not being around, but I was reinjured a few months back and just haven’t been able to keep up. Now that I’m finally better, I’m in the throes of moving, so will be MIA again. π
Oh Robert ! I am so sorry to hear that you’ve been under the weather. I am so sorry to hear that you’ve been struggling, but glad you’re feeling better. Heading down to Florida?
I’ll know for sure this week, either I go Forida to visit and sell my truck while there, or sell it here and fly to England. Depends on the people who are putting me up there and how long I can stay. Either way I’m going to England until they throw me out (6 months max.) then maybe Spain and Morocco or Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and India? I’m pretty up in the air, but am definitely going travelling before too long. I’m feeling the need.
