All things are right with the world. As you know, I’ve been troubled with the absence of the resident Carolina Wrens, and a beautiful white goose. The bitter arctic temperatures were life threatening to these beautiful creatures and I was sad with the prospect that they didn’t survive.
But I was awakened with the honking of the white goose. He’s back ! And back looking fat and sassy. Returning with his Canadian Goose flock, it was thrilling to see him. I have a silly “goosey-goosey” call that they are familiar with, and he honked back as soon as he heard me.
Rain had been called for today, and with the cold earth and warm rain, fog had rolled in. The temperatures had risen to the mid-40’s and the birds all returned to have their fill. Hearing a Carolina Wren, I ran out and put out more bird feed along with whole peanuts. The Blue Jays immediately began their alert call, letting everyone know breakfast had been served.
One kept getting a really large peanut in his mouth and hopped around trying to figure out a way to get a second one added for a major haul.
And then she appeared ! A glorious sight. The Carolina Wren made it ! Not only did I get to see her, I heard another in the distance. My heart immediately lifted with the joy of her survival.
The feeders were quite busy with other visitors, and it was wonderful to watch them fill their bellies.
Yes, everything is right in the world once again. Ebbs and waves, life breathes in and out.
All things share the same breath
– the beast, the tree, the man…
the air shares its spirit with all the life it supports.
