It’s raining, it’s pouring, the old man is snoring….
Woke up to rain, and it is still raining later on in the day. The island is crying as it doesn’t want me to leave. Nor do we want to go.
But Maryland is calling, and the ponies miss me. So most is packed, and I’m just waiting on the rain to subside so I can start loading the car. It’s been a beautiful respite in Maine this visit, and we managed to miss the overbearing summer heat wave at home.
This natural sea wall is part of Acadia National Park. Tumbled and tossed by the sea. With harsh waves and strong currents, the rocks are softened by the ocean’s fury and left on the beach. Filled by granite and other rounded rocks, the sea wall is a rock filled beach.
Yesterday morning I headed out at o’dark 30, meaning 4:00 a.m. to capture the sunrise over Southwest harbor and the natural sea wall. The stones beautifully capturing the warm sun rays, the surf pounding on the rock, and the sea birds floating on the waves. It was a peaceful and solitary time.
Wish all of you could travel to Acadia sometime and see the majestic beauty and experience it as I have. Have a wonderful weekend. Bella

Just beautiful….
Thank you so much Sensi. I think this set is some of my best photos.
Wow! If I were there, I’d be up at oādark 30 everyday as well for those views!
Yep, nothing like getting up super early to watch the sunrise, then come back home and go back to bed. š
All is beautiful, wonderful photographs to top off a great couple of weeks. Once when it was raining during an Acadia National Park visit, we headed for downtown Bar Harbor and went to their theatre to watch a movie – pretty neat old time place – I’ll bet it hadn’t been updated since the Rockefellers were in town! Have a safe trip back home.
I did see a really old theatre, and it looked they do plays there now. There is a different theatre that has easy chairs and you can have pizza while watching a movie. We never did make it though.
Such expanding skies just cannot leave you unmoved…beautiful!!
Thank you so much ! The skies were absolutely incredible, and I can’t tell you how clean the air is there. It was wonderful.
Beautiful images! Congrats!
You are too kind Rick. You’re right ! I think I’m starting to ‘get’ it. š
I’ve been to Acadia Bella, it IS beautiful. But I sure didn’t see any 0 dark 30, I have to say. Apparently I should have.
Have you really? Isn’t it glorious Lynne? Totally worth getting up early for the gorgeous sunrises. At least I hope you got to enjoy some of their sunsets. Thank you so much.
Did you pile stones too, as marker and a promise? Very lovely Emily.
Actually, that was there already. I always wondered why people did that. Now I know!
What amazing photos, Emily. Certainly worth the early risings. š
Thank you thank you thank you. You are so very kind. I did take a great nap that day though.
Absolutely superb photographs – best time of the day early morning – for photos anyway
You’re absolutely right. I need to try to get up earlier more often. It certainly was worth it. Thank you so much for your generous comment.
Each of these are truly so beautiful.
I love the stacks of stones.
Thank you so much Lisa ! I think this was certainly the best I’ve done this year. I loved those little stacks too.
Super series of images Emily!
Thanks Phil ! Now that I’m back, this is a very hard act to follow. At least I have a Florida jaunt scheduled, so maybe I’ll get lucky.
I love your seawall!! I will be thinking of you as I walk on the Vancouver seawall…. š
That sounds wonderful ! I would love to see your sea wall too. š

Thank you so very much.
Great use of light and what a wonderful perspective! Amazing photos- what an eye you have for beauty!
You are truly too kind Cynthia, and thank you so much for your generous comment. I’m hoping that I’m getting better with how I see things. Takes lots of practice though.
