A very long and special field trip was enjoyed on Sunday with fifteen hours of traveling, birding and beach scenes. The Horseshoe crabs are hitting the beaches to have sex on the beach and leave their eggs fertilized. The primary food source for migrating Red Knots from the southern tip of Argentina on their way to the northern arctic.
Thousands of shore birds were seen, and over 86 species were viewed over the entire day in five stops. Stay tuned next for more details.

“Sex on the Beach” is a very famours and popular drink, isn’t it..? ‘lol’
These crabs are “strange” animals… π
Hi Drake ! Finally rid of our house guests. Yes, it is a popular American drink that college kids like. The guy chased her around until he caught up with her. Slow motion. π
Why do today what you can defer to tomorrow – it does not stress… “hahahahaha”
You are too funny ! How have you been? Traveling again?
I have been visiting Norway a couple of days so back in Denmark visit my old parants saturday and sunday – to day I have been in Scotland but tomorrow I’m back in England… π
I can’t believe your travel schedule Drake. Don’t know how you do it. Have you ever tried to get together with Bente? Somehow I think you two would get along wonderfully.
So we could go fishing together… ‘hahaha’
No I never met her… π
Um…Him…he’s the reindeer guy
The horseshoe crabs are interesting, but so are some of the stones, shells, and other things around the one in the bottom photo.
Would you believe the other thing, which is the chain of circles is actually eggs from a Skate?
That’s one of the things I was wondering about, thanks for letting me know.
I used to are these all the time when I lives near Tampa Bay in Florida. It’s like looking back in time. Thanks for the memories!
It is my pleasure to share these with you. From one Floridian to another.
Wow, really fascinating… I’ve never seen them (live, that is)!
Really? How can that be? Maybe they were playing possum.
Oh dear, horseshoe crab porn! No video?! π
Well..the video wouldn’t have shown any action. You couldn’t see them move!
So cool! π π
Thanks Maggie ! So great to see you and hope all is well with you.
Thanks! busy, busy bees getting ready to launch our 1st kid’s book! Age 6 Up. It’s great! Coming this June on Amazon.com in both paperback & Kindle (ebook) versions!
That would be a sight to see.
They are really something. We stopped at one beach that was covered with large rocks that the state had put there. The live crabs were stuck in the rocks and couldn’t get out. We spent about 20 minutes pulling them out and placing them back into the sea. We saved at least 200 crabs.
O Mother of Crabs… you are a life saver.
LOL !!
That first image is amazing, it took me a while to work out what it was, then I read what you wrote, which is what I should have done first.
