Project 365/139 – Horseshoes on the Beach

A very long and special field trip was enjoyed on Sunday with fifteen hours of traveling, birding and beach scenes. The Horseshoe crabs are hitting the beaches to have sex on the beach and leave their eggs fertilized. The primary food source for migrating Red Knots from the southern tip of Argentina on their way to the northern arctic.

Thousands of shore birds were seen, and over 86 species were viewed over the entire day in five stops. Stay tuned next for more details.

  1. I used to are these all the time when I lives near Tampa Bay in Florida. It’s like looking back in time. Thanks for the memories!
