Finally having a chance to catch up on some spring migration birding, I headed down to new-to-me natural area in Harwood, Maryland. Wooten’s Landing offers a natural marshland area that is lesser known.
A perfect resting stop for migrating warblers and other birds heading north for the summer. I was looking for yellow. Lots of yellow, and Wooten’s Landing didn’t disappoint. Upon entering the natural area, a pair of Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers were busy building their nest.
I then began hearing all sorts of bird songs that I hadn’t heard before. Really wishing I was interested in listening to birding tapes in the car, I walked through the marsh area hoping to find the source of the songs. I quickly discovered it is much harder to bird when the leaves are on the trees. Made me wish I was still winter birding.
But then a small flush in tree caught my eye and I found several Common Yellow Throat Warblers.
Continuing on hoping to find more, a new song began to play. This time several White-Eyed Vireos came into view.
But wait ! There is more ! Besides the Osprey resting in the marsh, tons of Black-Wing Blackbirds, Chipping and Swamp Sparrows, and a Brown Thrasher, I also discovered this beautiful Northern Parula.
It was such a beautiful and perfect spring day. Wooten’s Landing proved to be heaven on earth. But it was time to visit Remy Martin. Remy says Neigh to you all.
Just for Jerry: Β Canon 60D, 500mm L, F/7.1, ISO 400, various shutter speeds, AWB.

Beautiful photos, As always! These feathery friends are so vibrant π
You are too kind Andy. Helps to have beautiful subjects.
They are adorable π
And the horse’s coat is amazing π
Flax seed meal. See..we should all eat it. π And I didn’t even groom her for the shot.
I love flax and swear by it for the nutrition and fibre but wow does this ever give me something to think about π
You would think I would do flax seed meal too. Seeing her beautiful coat.
~Poke~ ~Hint~ π
You found yellow – love the pops of color that nature puts on:)
These little ones were awesome ! I could have stalked the trees all day looking for them.
Super shots!
Thank you so very much for stopping by and commenting. So happy you liked these.
You are so good at bird photography, Emily! And love bella Remy too!
I’ve been working on it for a couple of years now Bente. The 500mm really makes a difference and I’ve gotten much better at stalking shrubbery. π
Thanks for teaching me some bird ID. I can’t imagine trying to photograph these lil’ flashes of color! My plant subjects don’t move. π
It takes quite a bit of practice, but worth the effort. Thanks!
Beautiful !!

Thank you so much Susan. Appreciate your visit and hope to see you back soon.
I wish I could hear the birds singing. I haven’t seen any of those in my area. And Remy is so handsome.
Humm..that’s interesting that you haven’t seen these. They are quite little and a bit shy. According to my ibird app, they do summer in your area. Remy is a pretty girl isn’t she?
Okay, I’ll keep my eyes focused on this tiny thing. Opsey, Remy did I mistaken you for a male?
Love your birding photos; they are quite amazing, and enjoyable to see.
You are so very kind Charlie. Went birding today, but found no birds. Let’s hope tomorrow is more successful.
That was a very good day of birding! Making up for lost time? Thank you for the shooting info. I’d ask which metering mode you use, but I’ll have plenty of chances to figure that out on my own.
Ii used evaluative metering, center focus point, ai servo focus mode, multiple high shooting. Sometimes I use negative exposure compensation at ISO 400 on bright light days.
Thanks, maybe I’m going the wrong way, time will tell.
Weird..I responded from my iPad, and it didn’t recognize me. Yep, couldn’t bird in Florida or during the riding clinic. Too busy, seems I missed some of the best migrators. π¦
Lovely commentary, and yellow is quite the spring colour!
Thank you so much for your kind comment.
A perfect spring day: birding and horses! Mine was similar but without as much yellow and more red.
OH ! I want to see your red ! Can’t even imagine what that would be.
Oh, I had an Eastern Towhee and an American Redstart hanging around today. I didn’t get shots of them, but I did photograph the Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds!
Absolutely beautiful photographs
You are too kind Jo. Thank you so very much.
,Love your crisp, clear shots of those gorgeous birds Emily. And Remy Martin is just as gorgeous π
Thank you so very much Madhu ! I’m so happy you enjoyed these. And Remy says hello.
You’re indeed priviledged with all the astonishing wildlife around you. Enjoy! π
Thank you so much Fatima. It’s amazing what one can find if they look. π
Fantastic pictures, Emily!! It’s so difficult to catch the little ones, I wish mine were as sharp π Have a great weekend! And say Neigh to Remy
I use a tripod all of the time, makes a huge difference. With all the leaves, I had to resort to manual focus to get some of these shots. Hope you’re having a great weekend planned. Remy says neigh back.
Wonderful photos, excellent captured… π
Thank you so much Drake!
Prized winning bird photography – what a great find. I love seeing the birds so close you can almost count their feathers – the colors are gorgeous! Remy Martin has the most amazing coat – beautiful shiny black!!!
Remy would love for you to come and visit Mary. Thank you so much for your kind words on the bird photos. I’ve been practicing a lot. The new lens this year is a tremendous difference, and the technique has certainly improved with time.
Aw, what sweethearts!!! Love them alllllll!
I hope to find more this week to share with you. Are you coming up north anytime this year?
Oh DEFINITELY! I’ll let you know when I come up again…. Definitely October, and perhaps before then. I’m sure before then!! π
