A true spring morning with Virginia Bluebells blooming, and Yellow-Rumped Warblers flitting in the trees. Their spring songs lifting even the heaviest of spirits.
Their delicate nature, moving in constant joy and celebration of a warm spring day. Bringing their bright yellow to share with the blue flowers of the bluebells.
Preferring cooler climates in the summer, these warblers are here just for a short stay before heading north. Imagine such a little thing traveling such long distances on its delicate wings.
As delicate as the blossoms of the bluebells, their presence is short lived.
But even these little warblers, seemingly so safe in the eden they have discovered, must remain wary. As there is a Red Shoulder Hawk keeping a close eye on these tender morsels.

Your bluebells are so beautiful!
Thank you so much Lisa. I processed these on my laptop and the colors aren’t quite right. Seeing it on the big screen, I think I went a little over the top.
My bluebells came up just last week, and they made me so happy. Beautiful photos, Emily!
I love seeing bluebells, and I was so lucky to be able to find them in Annapolis. So happy you got to enjoy yours as well.
Those bluebells sure are beauties and the little guy is a cutie. Loved the hawk having a scratch.
Thanks Phil! There were two hawks, and one of them kept trying to attack itself in the building window. Luckily it didn’t hurt itself. š
I have to try growing those bells since I love blues. Hope the warbler escaped from the predator.
Somehow even though the hawk was there, s/he wasn’t really paying much attention to the warblers. So all was good. I never thought to grow bluebells. They are a wonderful woodland flower.
buttery and so delicate…lovely post.
Thank you so very much! Great seeing you and hope all is well.
thanks Bella…yes surfacing again! š
These bluebell images are just gorgeous! Bluebells always remind me of English gardens. Hope that cute little Warbler manages to stay clear of the hawk! Happy spring!
You are so kind, thank you so much for your wonderful comment. Happy spring back to you!
Great series! I shot bluebells this week too. Spring is so fun for us photographers!
I know ! I have to travel to Florida this next week. Tough for me to leave our spring, but I do get to stop in Savannah for one night on the way down, and Amelia Island for one night on the way back. Not too shabby.
Sounds great! The flowers should be wonderful down there too. Have a fun time! Quiet week for me. No major deadlines. Have two shoots set up so I hope we have nice weather!
It’s been a long day, I’m just going to say excellent photos!
I hear you Jerry ! I should be getting myself ready for my road trip. But would rather just sit. Hope today is better for you.
Top hawk shot!
I’m so glad it’s spring again.
Thank you so much ! I am too, although it was a rather mild winter for us.
Nicely done — AGAIN — Emily. Love those little warblers, and those bluebells are exquisite. Why is it that the really pretty flowers don’t bloom very long. Too bad.
That is a really good question Tom. I agree, I think they should last longer as well.
Beautiful photos – the last bird seems saying “Oh no all this singing”… “lol”
LOL! That is funny Drake. I can see that too now.
I miss those Virginia bluebells – in England Bluebells are a completely different type of plant. I love the way the buds are such a different colour. And in Vietnam there are no bluebells….
I’d imagine you have other glorious flowers to enjoy in Vietnam. How much longer for you to be there?
I really like the way you have done this post, my favourite is the first image. I love the intensity in the colours. What lens do you use to shoot the birds? They are so sharp and clear.
Hi Leanne ! I’m using a Canon 500mm L on a Gitzo 410 (heavy) tripod, with a 7D body. After looking at these on a different computer I think I over saturated the colors. Thanks for much for your kind words.
That is a big lens. I don’t have anything like that, but I have good lenses down the other end, the wide angle. It is interesting to see what other people have in their kit.
I’ve got the full range. But the 500mm is my baby. My next one down is the 100-400, then the 24-105mm and a 10-24mm. The full range for an APSC camera
Dear Emily,
This post was a delight to behold. I believe to see bluebells, fluffy warblers and a hawk must count for an excellent day! Thank you for sharing these treasures. Sharon
You are right ! It was a great morning ! After that I went and played with Remy. It was a perfect spring day.
Love your photos. The hawk looks like a break well deserved. Time for a bit of man time.
The hawks were busy flying around, so you’re right. A break well deserved.
Gorgeous photos.
Thank you so much!
Loving your captures – makes me itch with SPRING FEVER:) Happy Monday!
I’ve been itching for weeks ! Tomorrow night – Savannah Georgia with their azaleas. Woo Hoo!
beeuutiful!!! :))
Thank you so much!
Ah, those colors… And such gorgeous shots of the critters, wow!! š
Thank you so much Feygirl. I love the Virginia Bluebells and was so happy to find them close to my home. The warblers are just too beautiful. Thank you!
Beautiful celebration of Spring – great photography! Love the wonderful blues against the Springtime greens – perfect! Real nice close-up of the warbler – shows the textures and wonderful blend of colors of the feathers. These images are great to see this morning.
Can you imagine a bird can be so colorful like that warbler? They truly are amazing. Thank you so much for your kind and generous comment and hope all is well with you Mary.
I love your photography. We get the little warblers in the summertime up here @ 8000 ft in northern New Mexico. I think they are migrating through too tho. I really noticed them at the end of last summer. I got a few quick shots of them. Their little song was beautiful to hear.
It’s wonderful to meet you and can’t wait to learn more about where you live. I love the mountains, and other than Sedona, I haven’t been able to explore that area. Thank you so much for stopping by and hope you get to enjoy yet more warblers.
Gorgeous bluebells, Emily. That bird really has a great beak for scratching an itch. š
Thank you so much Sylvia ! i hope you’re doing well and spring is upon you as well.
It’s autumn in South Africa. š
