Have you ever sat down with your camera and played with all the buttons. Some of these cameras offer fancy in-camera editing like my Canon 60D. These in-camera edits are available only when shooting .jpg images and not RAW.
Here is my original image with some basic Lightroom edits: Noise reduction, Clarity +26, Green, Red & Yellow luminance & saturation boosts, and black clipping -10.
The filter I wanted to see was the miniature effect. It didn’t do exactly what I thought it would do. I was hoping for a Lensbaby look.
The next one is a lot of fun and I can see all sort of creative images coming out of the “Grainy B&W”
There is soft focus – not too crazy about this one. Sort of boring.
And last, but not least the Toy Camera effect with three different tones. Although I don’t quite get this filter.
I’m not sure which one is my favorite one of these options. Ok, changed my mind. If I were to show you just one of these. I believe I would show you the Toy Camera on. Which one do you like best?
Now I would love to see what fancy little buttons on your camera can create. Do share!

Yup, I’m going with Toy Camera effect here too Emily. Looks like you were having fun!
It was good to be reminded what capabilities my camera as. I did end up re-editing the image with Nik Color Efex Pro and like it best.
Those effects are a lot of fun. I like the miniature setting on mine, as well as the B&W. Don’t use them too often, tho. But yep, agree with you and Phil—like the toy camera effect best out of all of these.
Thanks Kate ! What type of camera do you have? I would love to see what result you get with the miniature setting.
I would like to own a camera like that one… π π
I also like the Toy Camera version best. Great idea to experiment and post the results, good and not-so-good! Will have to get my manual out again π
It helps to remind ourselves now and again the capabilities of our cameras. We frequently get stuck in “this works for me” setting. π
Grainy B&W works great for me!
Thanks for the vote Paul !
I would like to play with your camera. Let me see, Mini has a blurry effect, Grainy appears to be postcard, Soft is soft, Standard I was drawn to the edging instead of the boat, that leaves me the Original. I like the Original based on my unprofessional picture knowledge.
Wonderful..it is funny how each of us have different preferences. I ended up using the miniature and adding additional Color Efex Pro edits.
If I had to choose one, I suppose it would be the grainy B&W. My DSLR is so old that it has no such settings to play with. My Powershot does however, so maybe I should try playing with them one of these days when there’s nothing to shoot straight up.
There you go..something to do on a cold and wintery day! I can see the B&W being your preferred one. π
my camera does not have the fancy buttons
for adventure
but if one has some spirit
one can find a way to experiment
thsnk you for your creative mind and eye
Ah but magicians like you don’t need fancy buttons. The magic is inside of you. π
FANCY, lady!!! I like them all for different reasons though…!! π
Must admit, I do too. Except for the soft focus one. Hope it’s great in sunny FLA.
I like the Miniature effect best, I think. What a fun project, and a good way to get better acquainted with your camera.
Now I need to get back and figure out the off camera flash options. That one always escapes me. π
I also vote for the Toy Camera version. It looks like someone is spying with a telescope, so again, it adds a story to the photo: Why Is someone spying on the boat? Who owns it? What’s going on in there? A world of endless possibilities and another novel. It could be part of the ‘mysterious’ barn you showed the other day with the discarded shoes.
I love how your mind words Fatima. Such creativity with intriguing possibilities. I can only imagine the wonderful things you create when one is not looking. π Thank you for your comment.
I never did that on my Nikon. I am too much a Photoshop girl although I do use Lightroom too.
I really need to buckle down and learn photoshop. But Lightroom and now Nik Color Efex Pro makes things so easy ! All I want to know is how to change backgrounds. One day I’ll focus. π
Thank you very much for the compliment. It’s good to have an active mind (if a bit crazy sometimes).
It is my pleasure. I love your comments as it opens up my mind to possibilities.
That is indeed a wonderful thing: a mind and a world full of endless possibilities. π
Toy camera effect!! Love it π
I like this one more as time passes too. Thanks sweetie.
