It was dark on the meadow. The sky heavy with clouds with the rising sun hidden behind. The bucks were out and slowing winding down from a fun evening out.
A younger buck, quite friendly walked up to another buck. Cleary his kissing cousin.
Big Meadows on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park is known for its healthy deer population. Protected from hunting, these deer have become quite used to the tourist paparazzi and calmly walk by as if one wasn’t there.

Gorgeous๐
Thank you ! I love their fuzzy antlers.
It’s bromance!
LOL ! Yes – it is ! Thanks Ilex.
Great shot! Hope the trip is going well.
It has been lovely, but I really wish I was staying on Skyline Drive. Had to drive an hour to get to Big Meadows. Before dawn of course, of which there was no sunrise.
What a beautiful capture – just add mistletoe and snowflakes and you have yourself a lovely Christmas card! ๐
That is such a wonderful idea Joann! Thank you so much. ๐
Ahhhh…..lovely shot
Can you believe my lucky stars? Thanks Mark!
Absolutely brilliant!
You would have loved the younger buck. He started following me. I think he thought I had deer cookies or something like that. Sort of had my own puppy dog deer for a little while. It was fun!
awww there so cute
Thanks Browniesnaps ! I do love their fuzzy antlers.
Oh great timing, that’s a fun photo. ๐ It always amazes me to find deer that are essentially immune to human presence; I see some often on the trails.
Well..these in Shenandoah mountain are, as there are no hunters there. In the valley though, they are super skittish of humans due to hunting in the area.
Interesting how that works. I always find myself hoping the friendly ones don’t ever wander into the hunting grounds.
