There is a little town in Pennsylvania, where along a quiet stream in the middle of town stands a tree. This tree holds treasures within. These treasures? Three Great Horned Owlets!
Quickly becoming well-known in the birding and bird photography community in our area, of course I had to make the sojourn to go and visit these fuzzy wuzzy little owls.
The Tree, so easily found. Mainly because of the collection of people gathered together. All waiting for the perfect Kodak moment.
In the afternoon, there was one that took the stage. The other two tucked deep in the tree taking an afternoon nap. Only one showed up briefly. Seems he forgot that mom had taught him to wipe his mouth after eating.
But the one that remained had no trouble entertaining us along the way. Sleepily yawning, he seemed as if what he really was doing was screaming for mom’s food delivery.
And then he decided to channel Count Dracula.
These owlets were truly a sight to behold and I felt honored to be in their presence. When I think about it. Finding a Great Horned Owl is amazing. Finding a owl nest is even more amazing. Finding a nest that is so accessible and the birds so comfortable with our presence? Priceless!
Looks like it was a photo session plus a show indeed with that dracula routine! π
I finally finished going through the 600+ images from this visit. So many were alike. LOL!

Oh wow Emily!! Very cool photographs –
Absolutely Mary ! Oh wow is right ! Visiting them was so heartening for me.
So adorable. What a great opportunity. We had a owl with an owlet in the park here last year and it was so much fun to watch. The Parks and Recreation Department cordoned off the area so people couldn’t get too close, but we were still able to see the little guy.
That is brilliant that the park protected their owls. Do you know what kind they were? Somehow these owls are just fine with the people around. Living in harmony.
They were great horned owls. They were beautiful.
What an adorable yawn. Wonderful captures Bella.
I loved his yawn too. It was a sleepy warm afternoon. I almost wanted to take a nap with him. Thanks Beth.
Little fuzzies!!! Oh they’re wonderful Bella and how wonderful that people can get such a great view of them π
It truly has been a gift of God – these little owlets. To be able to enjoy his creations so closely. Thank you Sarah!
I have to tell you that my God is in the earth and nature π The treats she chooses to share with us make me feel so privileged to be alive on this planet!
