This past week has been a difficult week. Between the tragic loss of my cat, me dropping my beautiful and large camera kit with the 500mm lens, and heavy duty business meetings, I’m a bit buggy eyed.
Yesterday I took an impromptu trip up to Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area to capture the 60,000 snow geese that have congregated there this week. Having taken about 800 images, I’ve barely begun with processing.
Watching these geese moving in unison is truly awe inspiring. It literally takes one breath away. But this trip meant a late arrival home last night, and an early start was scheduled for today.
A dawn departure had heading over the Maryland’s Eastern Shore. First stop was at Cambridge to photograph the ducks that happily stay close, so long as the corn keeps coming.
We then headed down to Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge for their annual Bald Eagle Festival. A few raptors were being displayed, giving great photo ops.
It was a gloriously warm and sunny day (finally) and the Feathered Friends meetup group that I was leading today had a great time. But as you know, all great things come to an end, and it couldn’t have been better than with a full moon on the rise.
As you can imagine I’ve got about 2,000 images to go through but at least I can share a teaser of the last 24 hours. Now buggy eyed, I’m off to sleep. Sweet dreams everyone. Bella
I may just have to give up on several rules that I go by, and start carrying food for critters, and visit wildlife centers. Your photos are amazing!
Good night, sleep tight, and dream of the Galรกpagos Islands.
See what looking for easy birds can lead to…:-)
So sorry to hear about your cat ๐ฆ As an animal lover I know how hard this can be. I have two adopted cats and a dog who I consider family members. My puppy actually thinks she is human most of the time ๐ If you get a chance please look up the poem “The Rainbow Bridge.” It is a very healing poem during times of losing a pet.
I have heard that poem, and it truly does reach the heart. Thank you so much for your kind words, and appreciate your support.
oh wow that’s quite the sunset! so beautiful and peaceful..Into the night, Love it ๐
You always make me smile. Sunrise..and moon rise for the night. ๐
What a breathtaking experience and video! Beautiful images, as always. Hope you managed to sleep all night. I look forward to seeing more of those fantastic images.
Thank you my dear, of course I tossed and turned, and am still doing so. Oh well.. things will get better. Just saw that the 60,000 geese are still there. Woo Hoo!
Wonderful shots, Emily, and the multitude of geese is awesome. ๐ I hope this will be a much better week for you. xx
So far, so good. Thanks Sylvia for your kind words.
I love the Eastern Shore! Originally a Maryland native, I consider the Chesapeake Bay a jewel in the crown of the Eastern Seaboard. I now live in the Susquehanna River valley, which feeds the Bay. It is horribly polluted and makes me sad. I am so sorry for the loss of your cat. Thanks for sharing these beautiful images!
How glorious it must be to live in the Susquehanna River Valley. That is a beautiful area. My ancestors were all over that area. My GGG Uncle built Rock Run Manor. Familiar with it?
Thank you for your kind words about Tuxedo. He’s been sorely missed.
No, I’m not familiar with Rock Run Manor. I will research it. Yes, it is very verdant and lush here. Lots of rivers, mountains, trees. Very different from L.A. where I lived for 13 years.
You’ve captured some fantastic images. I’d have loved to see the geese. It must have been amazing. I hope this week is a whole lot better for you.
This large amount of geese are truly spectacular. Just don’t stand underneath them, it can get a bit messy. Thanks for your well wishes for this week. ๐
Oh, I’m so sorry about your cat. We’ve had dogs ever since I was little thus I’ve experienced many losses of pets and it’s always sad and painful. I hope your heart heals soon. @}–
Sorry about your camera too! Is it damaged then? Gosh that would frustrate me tremendously. Better days are coming.
On another note, these shots are awesome. The geese , taking your breath away? Oh yeah, I see it, I feel it; that’s tremendous, thank you for sharing. Great pictures all around from birds to the full moon, always sharp.
Smiles and hugs for you,
eLPy
Last week was truly the week from H E double hockey sticks. The geese, were amazing with their thundering of their feet on the ice, and their loud honks while in motion. Truly glorious.
