Happiness is a butterfly,
which when pursued,
is always just beyond your grasp,
but which, if you will sit down quietly,
may alight upon you.

Yes, butterflies give us that feeling of happiness. Oh, the variegated one is beautiful.
Isn’t he the coolest ? He kept hiding in the back flowers and I waited and waited. Took about 1/2 hour before he got closer for me to capture him. Thanks Perpetua!
Beautiful! I love taking photos of butterflies because usually it is a two-for. We get the butterfly and the flower.
That is awesome Pat ! A two-for, your absolutely right! Thank you so much.
These are magnificent!
Now I know what print to send you soonie. I’ll keep working on butterflies this summer and you can pick your favorite. 🙂
It’s tremendous to see you’ve still got so many exotic butterflies – lovely 🙂
Thank you so much. I love butterflies and usually try to find a butterfly house each year to enjoy them. Now this is making me look for them out in the wild. Hope to find plenty more this summer.
I hope you do too! It’s a good sign that the farmers aren’t overusing insecticides, giving nature a chance 🙂
Emily, your images are just more amazing each time you post ~ beautiful.
You are truly so kind Susan. I must admit, this project 365 is really making the difference. Between the shooting and the post processing. The real edge was getting the Nik Color Efex Pro plug ins for Lightroom. Sheer magic! Hope you’re doing well.
Good to know, it will be awhile before I’m there but I’ll make note of it.
A very timely post, as I have been missing our butterflies that should be here. I don’t know if it’s been the weather or what, but I have seen very few so far this year, so thank you for reminding me what they look like.
Perhaps they are just running a little late for you. Surely you will find butterflies soon. In the meantime, I’m more than happy to share mine with you.
They are very lovely, but can be diffiult to “catch”. Great pictures, Emily.
Hi Bente ! You’re absolutely right. I’m sure you can see me dodging between flowers trying to capture these lovelies. 🙂
Such wonderful creatures! Beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for your kind words Fatima. So happy that you enjoyed these.
Awesome pix! Like Pat said, you get a 2fer flower + flutterby. That’s what my mom used to call them. Cocoons open when the temperature is right. If your region is experiencing cooler temps than normal (like the midwest) the butterflies will stay snug as a bug in a rug. Sure wish I could!
I got that term from FeyGirl, she’s so creative and awesome. Had never heard that term before. Humm..somehow I think they are running a little late this year. One day I hope to make it to Mexico to see the migrating Monarchs.
Butterflies are so beautiful – like dreams in real life… 😉
They truly are Drake. Thank you.
Beautiful photography! I love the clarity you achieved here, you’ve captured the graceful elegance of butterflies – wonderful colors!
Your words always make me feel so warm and fuzzy inside Mary. I can’t thank you enough for your kindness.
Beautifully captured flutter-by’s! 🙂
Appreciate your kind comment. Thank you!
Ohhh.. aren’t they gorgeous. Nice capturing of the color oO
The funny thing is was that it was drizzling rain when I was trying to capture them. I find rain always helps saturate colors in nature. Thank you!
Ahh I had no idea! 🙂
Those are outstanding Emily! Sadly we seem to have very few butterflies in out area this year.
Funny as you’re not the first one that has said that on this post. I hope you get to see them soon. 🙂
Beautiful pictures, Emily! it’s always so nice to see good butterfly pictures, especially of species we don’t have over here. 🙂
Now that is amazing – now it’s your turn to share some of your butterflies then. I’d love to see them.
Loving the butterflies and the shows they are putting on right now – the bees too:) Have a Great Day!
The trouble with just a few is that I want more !! Thank you so much Renee.. I really owe you a visit. Hope you can forgive me.
Exquisite, as always, great post!
Your words truly astound me. I just try to capture what I see and hope that it turns out all right. You are too kind. Thank you!
I really admire your work, thank you for sharing it!!
You just took me way, way back, all the way to U of WI and Early American Literature, 1969. Beautiful Flutter By Photos! I always am amazed at how little DOF a 400 has.
Thank you so much Robert. Well, it was drizzling when I took these photos, so I used a wide open aperture setting of f/5.6, thus the shallow DoF. If I was using something like f/11 or bigger number, then more would be in focus.
What a telephoto does do is crunch the background with the foreground, where a wide angle doesn’t.
So happy to take you back in time.
i love those shots! really great, as always 🙂
You are truly too sweet Evi. Thank you so much.
Another wonderful set of extreme close-up shots. Great color, texture and DOF.
Such a kind compliment Tom. Thank you so very much. Practice practice!
Wow beautiful photo!!! You are so talented!!
You are truly too generous with your comment. Thank you so very much and so happy you enjoyed these.
