It’s been raining yet again today. Add 100% humidity and the day hasn’t exactly been conducive for outdoor shooting. When I returned home this afternoon from the barn. I made my cat Tuxedo go outside for a while. He wasn’t too pleased that it was raining, and almost hissed at the weather.
I saw him leisurely sitting on the porch bench watching the rain. Great photo Op ! Grabbing my Canon G12, I went outside. First stupid photo. My camera instantly fogged up.
The only solution to this problem is to sit and wait for the camera to acclimate to the new climate. Didn’t help that the camera was sitting in a well air conditioned home. So we sat there, Tuxedo and I, on the green bench watching the rain fall. Waiting for the camera to warm up. After a bit, I decided to give it a try.
Have I told you how hard it is to photograph cats? Seems like they have their own ideas of what they want to do. Tuxedo caught one eye on the wrist strap on the camera, moving about and had other thoughts.
I was hoping to use the Shutter Priority option on the G12, but with such low light it really complained. Even though I had set it to 1/1000 a sec, then 1/500 a second. I then placed it on “P” program mode and the ISO jumped up to 1000, with really low shutter speeds, between 1/20 – 1/60 sec.
When I told Tuxedo the game was over. He wasn’t too pleased.
I did manage to get one decent shot. Although it’s still a deer in headlight look.
Actually, I’m happy that I’m practicing use with this point and shoot camera in low lighting as I’m hoping to make this an underwater camera for an adventure I have planned in 2014. It’s good to know its capabilities.
Hope you’re having a drier day than I am.

it’s 100° and 7% humidity in Albuquerque right now, 5:08 pm. Rain sounds kind of good.
Wow ! Now that is what I call hot and dry.
Great pictures… love the name ‘Tuxedo’ 🙂
LOL ! The funny thing is that it is so unoriginal. That’s what his breed is called.
Really? It’s a great name, suits him I think!
The cat just need a bow tie or two… 🙂 😉
Yes he does 🙂
There is nothing like hearing the purring of a cat….great name, even if it is a breed.
Dragged them in out of the rain, now they’re snoozing on the foot stools. Too cute!
We have all the sun here. Come for a visit. Tux is not amused. 😆
Nope not too much. Rain is gone today. Woo hoo!

I’d better leave it at that.
Lol! This is awesome. Great laugh to start the day
Great pics, you always capture the right moment from interesting angles. Tuxedo is a great name (as the others have said), he looks just like my nephew’s cat Zack.
Thank you so much for your very kind comment. It’s great to see you and appreciate your visit. Tuxedo is a cool cat. I bet Zack is too.
Love the photos. Reminds me of one of our cats when I was growing up 🙂
Thanks Colin! Happy you liked this post. Not the most glorious photos, but fun nevertheless. 🙂
Your goofy shots really made me smile Emily. I love the name ‘Tuxedo. Very well chosen. 🙂 He’s gorgeous.
Thank you so much Sylvia. I thought they were pretty cute too. Had to share them. 🙂
What a beautiful cat! I love the funny video. It is notoriously difficult to photograph animals. We always tried to take Christmas pictures of the 4 of us (including Bramble the Labrador Retriever) to send to family and friends, but it always required loads of takes as Bramble would move at the vital moment. Thank God for digital photography!
Now that must be a really funny scene. Trying to lasso Bramble for a photo. Thanks for the laugh.
Purrty Kitty – loving your post!
Thanks Renee ! Hope you’re doing well.
Doing well:) I love how Tux did his/her own thing, so not having it:)
Nice shots of the feline in formal wear. Now about the foggy lens, happens to me all the time when I’m zooming in over a pot, pan or skillet in the kitchen. Gotta get me some lens defogger, if it even exits. Blowing and shooting at the same time doesn’t seem to work. 🙂
That is funny Tom. I can see you with the camera hovering over a stovetop. Spit is what the divers use for their masks. Other than that, acclimation is the only way. Good luck with that!
I have to come back and play with Tux. This is such a playful post. Love it.
Have you seen the post with Sunshine and the mouse? I posted it when I started blogging. Now that is hilarious. Search cat and mouse.
