Pink Azalea
One cannot be in the south in springtime without a explosion of color from blooming azaleas. In six days, we’ve traveled six states and in all that journey, I’ve been in search of outstanding azalea blossoms.
Savannah..just finishing. Gainesville, long gone. Now in Aiken, South Carolina and the azaleas are at their peak. Azaleas always make me think of the south, and are steadfast in the landscape.

Very nice. My brother lives in Charleston SC and there’s a park in the area devoted to rhodos and azaleas, it’s an awesome tour if you get the chance
Charleston is beautiful and I would love to go back there to enjoy it. Perhaps next spring would be a great place to return to. Thanks for a great idea.
Looks great Emily but you want to see Azaleas?! Check out Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet SC, then go across the street to Huntington Beach State Park and watch me take photos of alligators. 😛 😀
Believe me..if I was traveling solo, I totally would have rerouted and headed to your marsh. That would have been tremendous fun.
The azaleas and the rhododendrons in Washington state are just now coming in to bloom.
I wonder if we’re in the same gardening zone. We’re listed as Zone 7. How about you?
Just gorgeous! Are azaleas and rhododendrons different? One of the plantation houses we lived in had a garden full of azalea bushes that would be a riot of red and pink in summer. Haven’t seen one since we left in the eighties!
That must have been a dream come true living in a plantation home. I posted a rhododendron today, just for you so that you can see. They are of the same family, but a little different from each other.
I love Azaleas, that are beautiful, I just don’t seem to be able to keep them alive in my garden. I love how you have photographed that one and the treatment, just beautiful.
I agree with you Leanne ! I have hard time getting them to survive in my garden as well. They are not drought hardy, and rather tender to disease. The old versions that were planted in the south manage beautifully. Thank you so much!
I have only ever visited Florida in the South and somehow I doubt that counts. Reading your blog is starting to make me think we need to advance The South up our travel bucket list!
Florida is totally the south but just different because of so much immigration and heat. The true south – Lousiana, South Carolina, Parts of Georgia are really unique. Worth a good road trip.
