A short visit this morning to the U.S. National Arboretum brought me to their Asian collection and their superb selection of Camellia bushes. Several were blooming and many more promised to be blossoming within the week.
Photographing flowers with red, yellow and orange tones are quite difficult as the image gets “hot”. The solution? Bringing down your exposure compensation to highlight for the bright color.
If I hadn’t had a blazing headache, I would have remembered that trick and thus some rather hot mama Camellias. Regardless, I was able to tone down them a bit with some tweaks in Nik Color Efex Pro and Lightroom 4. Enjoy this bright color of spring. Bella

That though the radiance which was once so bright be now forever taken from my sight. Though nothing can bring back the hour of splendor in the grass, glory in the flower. We will grieve not, rather find strength in what remains behind.

beautiful visual feast for Easter
Thank you so much Will. Yesterday was a glorious warm spring day. Now cool and cloudy. Hope you’re having a wonderful day.
They are a beauty especially the single petal. I guess the solution to your head ache is your magnificent camera. Is it Easter yet? Darn one more sleep.
It’s Easter !! Thank you so much for your kind comment, and welcome to the time of renewal.
Despite your headache you achieved some brilliant shots – love these beautiful floral photographs, especially the second large one on the right. Happy Easter ~
These were stunning blossoms. Growing up in North Central Florida I was surrounded by these. They are special for our area and my friend hadn’t seen many of them. Crazy headache lasted all day long. Today is much better. Hope you’re having a beautiful day.
Sorry about the headache, seems like the flowers would have made it go away.
LOL ! Actually, they made my head hurt more!
Beautiful photos, I really hope your headache is gone now… 🙂
Thank you so much Drake. You are too kind. Took 24 hours, but better now.
Stunning colours.. wow
Thank you so much Lisa. Mother Nature is pretty awesome isn’t she? Such marvelous color, textures and smells.
Stunning beauties! Happy Easter.
Thank you so much Phil!
Pretty! I love the camellias! Unfortunately, they were past their peak in South Carolina last week. I’m glad you had the opportunity to capture some beautiful images! Stunning colors!
I was so lucky to see them Tricia. Growing up in Florida, I got to enjoy these every spring. My friend hadn’t seen many of these in Maryland before. They are awesome.
Wow, great choice of subjects for your photos; I love camellias and have two in my garden.
Now that surprises me. I’d never imagine Seattle would have camellias. That’s great!
Beautiful flowers. Hope headache is gone!
Thank you so much Fatima, it took a day but it finally left.
Lovely photos, Emily. Camellias are just exquisite, aren’t they. Hope your headache soon lifted.
