Living on the Chesapeake Bay brings the best of the water world to one’s front door. In spite of the continuing heat in Maryland, a brief cruise on a classic boat was overdue. Heading down towards the Bay, my eyes set on a pair of wooden masts on a sailboat under cover. Under restoration, this unknown boat was being tended to by its owner. With most of the boat under black tarps, my curiosity is up as to what kind of boat this is, and how old it may be. Most definitely deserves at least a weekly visit to see how the restoration progresses.
It was late in the afternoon, and the waterways were quiet. The economy has caused many people to leave their larger boats tied to their piers, while those with more eco-friendly water crafts were enjoying the light breeze.
It is a “Code Orange” day, meaning the air quality is less desirable. The skies were hazy and the late afternoon caused me to quickly overheat. I began watching the brown water of the Magothy River, realizing how the drought has caused the water quality to deteriorate. Not too many fishermen out today as the fish have gone off for deeper waters. Even though I wasn’t at the beach, I could at least pretend we have waves.
But hey, who’s complaining? Any day on the water is a great day. After so many months of not boating, it was great to get back out to enjoy the Chesapeake Bay.

Thanks Michael. I was relooking at that photo and wondering just how in the heck I got that. There have been better days on the bay, the overall conditions are harsh. Got tons of rain yesterday, so hopefully that’ll at least help the water quality a bit. 🙂
