There’s a place in France, where the kitties wander freely through a medieval village. Nestled in the Luberon Mountains sits the small and rustic village Rustrel. This little known gem in Provence has less than 800 residents. Seen down the alleyways and small cobblestone roads, these lovely felines stroll freely through the village with an air of aloofness.
These cats have the whole village as their home and while seeming rather domesticated, it appears that they are really quite shy. Clearly Rustrel loves their cats, and allows them to roam the village to keep the mice away.
These soft and furry creatures with their claw filled paws always enchant me along my travels. I would love to tuck them into my suitcase and bring them home with me.

Cats are wonderful animals, aren’t they? We have seven. Some of them here:

Take care, and have a good one,

I am entirely too jealous. Would love to have 7 cats. Such a lucky number.
Unfortunately, though, our number of cats “fluctuates”. As we’re living in the southern Texas countryside, there are too many predators around and sometimes some of our cats simply disappear. But then, always new ones come wandering by or are given to us by friends.
You can come take a few of them home from my neighborhood!
Would love to ! I need a barn though so they have a home.
These ones would probably be perfect barn cats! Well, except the 3-legged one.
Beautiful Kitties – Happy Tuesday:)
Thanks Renee ! Got to love those fuzzy creatures.
I love cats! You have a really nice site with beautiful photos! Iβll be following with interest…
Cheers,

Thank you so much EC!
What beautiful cats!! Like you, I always want to take them home with me. I’ve got four cats at the moment and five visitors, too shy to come close yet, but they will, given time. For now, I give them all a good meal, and speak quietly to them. They are already beginning to respond. All it takes is a bit of love. Thank you for your wonderful photos. Blessings from Lizzie Joy
That is too sweet ! I bet those cats are so happy to find you for a refuge.Indeed, an infinite amount of patience and understanding their behavior helps to develop the friendship with them. Would love to seem some pics of your kitties.
Photos of my four cats can be found on the article “I am honoured to accept two awards”. As soon as I manage to photograph the visitors, I’ll put their pictures on-line, too. Blessings from Lizzie Joy
Thanks Lizzy, will definitely check it out!
I lived in Greece for awhile many years ago and the small island was full of cats – everywhere you went there were cats…I am a cat lover so I didn’t mind…
I had heard that there are many cats in Greece. I better get over there to visit. Although I’d be in real trouble wanting to bring them all home with me. Interestingly enough, there are tons of dogs in Peru, but cats are hard to find. I did find two finally in a little village.
So lovely! Cheers!
Thank you so much for enjoying these cat pics. Bella
Awww, love them! Such beautiful portraits of these gorgeous felines. And I love the fact that the town embraces them…
So true Fey, you can see that they are well fed, but none of them would let me get close to them. Leading me to believe they are partly feral, but most definitely village citizens.
They’re like my strays β abandoned kitties I feed (and had TNRd). They’ll allow us to get close enough, but not for cuddles. π
Darn, it’s all about the cuddling, don’t they know?
Heeee!!!! π
Very nice photos of the cats. I guess they do a well done mouse job, but I wonder: will it not be millions of these cats, if they live unattended..? π
I wonder about that too. Perhaps they fix them and set them back out on the streets like they do in London.
Hello…I’m big dog Zola! I used to live in South of France and although I’ve visited Luberon, I would have much preferred to go to Rustrel to see all the kitties..it was very nice to see your lovely photos of them though..
I’m sure you’d love to chase them too Zola wouldn’t you? Great to meet a French dog. π
I love these pictures. Cats are so peaceful!
Purrrrrr
Thank you!
Lovely cats with nice provencal background textures…ok they’re just cute. Nearby Rousillon, Gordes and Bonnieux are also beautiful, although a bit touristy. I took a few pix there earlier this year, including a few cats. I’m thinking of doing a European cats post in the near future. Regards Peter
Hi Peter ! Thanks so much for stopping by and enjoying my cats in Provence. We also went through Rousillon and Bonnieux. I have a few articles with Equitrekking about my rides through the area here:

Thank you again, and hope to see you back soon!
i’m off to check your blog out now and am waiting for your European Cat post.
